<BR><BR> So you and Jopatmc are arguing that VSpan would have changed the Rockets fortune and gotten them farther in the playoffs? <BR><BR><BR><BR><BR><BR> <BR>
No. Although that is true. I am arguing that Rubio is going to be a superstar and my judgment is being called into question. Posters are trying to dig up some mess about VSpan when there isn't anything to dig up. None of them will come out and say they were supporters of Rafer and that Van Gundy did right by sticking with Rafer. (But some of them were.)
I never tell anyone that I've repped them. I'm not telling you, just so you'll know. So don't write any more posts that make so much damn sense, so I don't have to come up with this convoluted stuff. OK? Thanks in advance! Oh, and you are absolutely right. I would dearly love to get Rubio. I think the odds are very good that he'll be a star in this league, if he ever has the balls to come over. I just think that, with all due respect to the OP, who I respect a lot, that bringing up The Greek in this discussion is an act of insanity.
(Even tho I have no idea what has been said already in this discussion, I clicked last post just to read Deck's response) I will One of the most important attributes to me for a PG is the ability to run a offense without constantly turning over the ball...something Rafer did MUCH better than Spanoulios. Did I cringe every time he put up one of those god-awful floaters? hell yeah...but still I felt that Rafer's positives outweighed his negatives.
OK, but I expect that from Sam, who I understand. I don't understand why you are so ardent in your Greek Defense!
rubio is john stockton mixed with nash, with gary payton's defense. he has jordan's competitiveness and magic's court vision. all of these assets make him the future of the league. magic and bird, jordan, kobe, rubio?
Because what I felt about VSpan is being distorted. My feelings about VSpan were that we should have been playing him and letting him supplant Rafer. I didn't feel like he was a superstar. I felt that he was a legitimate upgrade from Rafer. Sam is trying to say I don't know what I'm talking about because I am claiming Rubio is going to be a superstar. He is trying to discredit my bball acumen. I don't really care to discuss VSpan. I care to discuss Rubio. I can't understand how anyone can't watch the games that he plays, especially against NBA all-stars, and not see how good he is. I don't understand guys not watching the game, taking a peek at a box score and saying he is going to be pedestrian player or a good but not great player. Watch da durn game. Watch him control the game. Watch him lead the team. Watch him get his team high percentage shots possession after possession after possession. Watch him totally disrupt the opponent on the defensive end. Watch him take away all the easy stuff. Watch him gamble defensively with intelligence. He's on a different level mentally than the rest of the players out there. He is going to be a superstar in the NBA.
I'd rather have Matt Maloney at PG than VSpan -- at least Maloney knew his limitations. Spanoulis acted like he didn't think he had any. My lasting memory of him will be him lunging for a steal and running into and flattening the opponent, like a bull in a china shop. Not exactly what I want from my starting PG.
Jopatmc decided to start a thread bout his boner for Rubio? I'm shocked! Shocked i tell you! We get it dude, you love Rubio. You're on record, you've been on record. Your insistence in bringing his name up in association with any and every rocket rumor is tired. "what, morey is looking for a bag of dorito's? Well maybe he can leverage that bag if diorites and pry PRubio from Kahn!". It's a broken record man. Just put it in your sig - "want to have butt sex with Ricky Rubio. I'm right and your wrong." Word it differently if you want. Leave the butt sex part out...your call. Personally I'll be shocked if Rubio ever makes an NBA all star team. The guy isn't anymore cerebral than half the starting pgs in the NBA. Consider that's not a huge diss - the position is stacked - cp3, deron, rose, Nash, westbrook, billups, rondo, curry, Parker, kidd, Brooks, wall, evans, Davis, Collison, felton. Even average pg's seem to be of comparable skillet. Calderon has a similarly "cerebral" game IMO but is a much better shooter.
Jop, I think you are 100% correct in this thread.....keep on keeping on !!!!! Don't let people with an obvious bias get ya down.......Rubio is very good, and will be a very good NBA player. And VSpan would have been a very good player too, he just needed time on the court to used to the speed and his teamates. If he had Adelman as his coach, he would still be in the league. DD
It doesn't matter, it's the same with all the people who get wrapped up in teh euro-fantasy about magic pale fundamentally sound basketball geniuses who rely on quick wits to prevail over atheltically superior, yet intellectually limited, tattooed streetballers. Everybody with an excess of consonants or vowels in their name is a junior Ginobili waiting to break out, and there is nothing you can do to shatter that illusion. They are true believers and simply have too much wrapped up in it to change. If Rubio flops (and at thsi point, Jopatmc has established anything short of "Magic, Bird and MJ" a flop).....then his love of the pigment is going to lead him to claim "WELL, YEAH HE FELL FLAT ON HIS FACE WHEN GIVEN THE CHANCE, BUT I KNOW HE WOULD HAVE BEEN GOOD IF HE WAS GIVEN A CHANCE! I JUST KNOW IT!" or somethign similar. It doesn't make a sh-t if it's completely illogical. He'll support this with lies for which he has no support or evidence ("ADELMAN WAS BEGGING SPANOULIS TO COME BACK! I KNOW THIS IS TRUE!") or ("THEY ONLY TRADED FOR SCOLA CUZ V-SPAN QUIT- OTHERWISE THEY WOULD HAVE KEPT HIM!") and take the classic DaDakota tactic: "IT'S MY OPINIONS SO EVEN IF IT'S r****dED I"m RIGHT!1!!!"
