when Ish has the ball 1- looks to pass ( 4 options) 2 -looks to create options for others ( 4 options) 3- score himself Brooks has ball 1- look to score ( 1 option) 2- look to create himself ( 1 option) 3 - look to pass ( sorry shotting clocks run out..or crap pass )
Then again this is more of an effect of last season. We asked both Brooks and Ariza to lift the Rockets from the deficit of losing Yao. Now, with Yao back the gears have to change a bit. AB needs time to adjust and in due time he will be the player he was advertised to be. As for now, Ish gave us exactly what we needed tonight, he was the needle that threaded the complex tapestry that is this Houston Rockets team. Brooks can do this as well (and he has done this before). The beauty of Brooks however, is the fact that because he is a scoring pg he can help us when we have an offensive drought by adding some points on the board (Ish isn't as good at this). In the end what tonight showed is that as a unit we are strong, we just need a player who can pull it all together.
Point Guard instinct is born with not learned... Brooks does not have,,, never will we have enough points no.1 in nba !!
It's not just his passing. He's a good rebounder, good defender for his size (played Parker well), and he communicates with his teammates and coaches constantly. He has a great attitude, and if things aren't going right, he doesn't sulk and allow his head to get out of the game. He has great poise which is necessary for a point guard.
I don't know if bringing Brooks off the bench is necessarily the best move, but I do agree our starting lineup needs tweaking. It's way too weak defensively- extremely unbalanced. Yao, besides his height (yeah, I know that's a big exception), is not playing great defense. Scola, Martin, Brooks are all less than solid. That leaves Battier to run the defense and pay attention to whoever he's guarding- usually the best opposing offensive wing. One of Scola, Martin, Brooks needs to come off the bench, even if they end up with more PT than their backup. Defense at the outset is extremely essential.
I'm not ready to proclaim Ish as the next great PG yet, and we were playing the Twolves, but still, the Rockets looked good with a pass-first PG playing the whole game. Ish pushed the tempo, got the team into its offense, etc. and as a result, Scola, Martin, and Yao all got their shots and they actually looked in sync for once.
I disagree that Lowry and Ish are alike. Ish is a much better passer and has much better court vision than Lowry. Lowry is like a bulldozer who plows his way in the defense and creates a play. Ish likes to probe defenses and keep his dribble alive. Lowry also doesn't have a floater in his arsenal while Ish does. They're both very different players.
How lucky we are to have not one, but two defensive PG's. I don't know if anyone noticed, but last night Ish did a great job defensively as well as tonight.
way too early to tell, Ish is good at play making but did you see his shooting percentage, if we are playing against bigger, stronger, elite PGs like Billups, Deron, westbrook, Nash, Chris, parker, will he be that effective there is a reason this guy is not drafted. When team gets his information and start to leave him wide open and all stay on their man, play ish one on one and force him to make the shot, you will see his flaws and you guys here jumping on his bandwagon would know how stupid you are now.
Whoa, I agree with most of what you say. We will see how it plays out. But there are quality players who go undrafted, one example is Ben Wallace. He is only a rookie, I think we should see how he develops before we pass judgment good or bad.
People saying its against the Timberwolves? He led us back against the Spurs in the second half when we were down by 13. He makes everyone around him better, something Brooks cannot do.
A true PG is very important, especially to the Rockets with bunch of good players but not star players. A true PG can control the tempo and setup easy shots for them.
Ben Wallace is not a good example. He was an elite center even though he was undersized. His defense was second to none. I don't think Ish is anywhere near that level. Yes he played well tonight and in the closing quarter last night as well. If he could consistently do this over a couple of games, then I'll give him his due, but until then, he's still not proven. I want to see what Ish does when defenses adjust and sag off of him, forcing him to shoot and not dribble/penetrate into the paint.
