Enron did something like this in India by building a large gas fired power plant. They essentially couldn't lock in any natural gas deliveries because it was too expensive for the local Indian government.

Back on track, looking back I'm not so ssure re he US can both invade Afghanistan and not invade Iraq. The U.S. went all in when it defended the Saud royal family from being attacked by Saddam. There's no getting around the uncomfortable alliance between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia.

People want their cheap oil and their cheap stuff from China. Therefore to me it is contradictory to accept the benefits of cheap Saudi oil while opposing the invasion of Iraq. They go hand in hand.

Taliban declare 'defeat' of U.S., allies in Afghanistan

(Reuters) - Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan on Monday declared the "defeat" of the U.S. and its allies in the 13-year-old war, a day after the coalition officially marked the end of its combat mission.

Vowing to restore their former hard-line Islamist regime, Taliban spokesman Mujahid vowed that "the demoralized American-built forces will constantly be dealt defeats just like their masters".

It will depend on which army pays better, but yes traditionally for the 17th century like people, The Taliban can claim the moral high ground. But if they oppose the warlords on poppy production again, they can't pay better.
