Good Luck. None of our Oaks have had a problem yet.

How many times have you lost power?

    Per my friend:

I hope everyone survived the great freeze of 2007! I was really worried. It got a little dicey this morning when I saw on the news that some grass and twigs on a bush had froze over out off of 290. I knew then that this was serious. I just hope that everyone is ok. I almost didn't make it when I had to walk my dog this morning.
I am just glad I had some thermal blankets waiting for me as soon as I got back inside. Unfortunately my dog was not as lucky and he froze like Jack Nicholson in the Shining while going to the bathroom.

This week isn't all that cold, but the news stations sure make it out to be.

it's not the cold they're making a big deal of. it's ice on the roads. which happens about once every 10 years here.

I wish all of winter was like this. It's beautiful outside. I love the crisp air. Main, I wish I still lived in Switzerland.

Not once, amazingly enough. And a limb has yet to break (touch wood!), but it never got above freezing out here today, and if we get more freezing rain tonight, I'm not optimistic about the outcome. :(

How'd ya'll manage that? We lost power twice. Briefly yesterday morning but for 3 hours the night before. Almost missed the entire Dallas game.

Finally back at work. I was getting a bit stir crazy being stuck at home since Sunday. The wife, kid and I went out to dinner last night just to get out of the house. The drive wasn't bad at all for me (straight down Parmer)...just a little ice on the I-35 overpass. I'm still the only one here in my department. It's kind of nice.

This totally baffels me. Everywhere my friends are complaining of cold weather, but the oil price keeps dropping because of "hot winter"

In the grand scheme of this winter, it has been a mild winter for the most part. Especially the Northeast has had surreal winter weather this year.

But most of day to day fluctuations in oil price is determined by commodities traders in Chicago. Crude hit below $50 today, but settled above.

Remember crude oil is the main component of heating oil and gasoline amongst other things. So just because consumers might be using the same amount of gasoline, it doesn't mean they are using the same amount of heating oil. This is where the winter weather comes into effect when looking at heating oil. All of them are connected.

OPEC has committed to decreasing oil supply worldwide, but in reality they have only cut half of what they have committed. Further complicating things for OPEC, is that the Saudi's have pledged to increase oil supplies by 40% by 2009.

A few commodity traders I know, are calling $49 the key level to watch on oil prices. They expect it to see some short term bottom at that level.

the same guys who told us it would be at $100/barrel with gas at $5/gallon last April? ;) :D

all those oil guys (i have friends like that, too) always talk about the oil market as if it has no ceiling but will be hitting the floor any minute. they tell me that $60 is the floor...than $55...now $50. it changes every time i talk to them.
