Weathermen are only as good as their computer forecast prediction models. Other than that, their a worthless pile of cow dung. Everyone loves to blame weathermen when their predictions don't pan out. That's just the way it is.
This has definitely been the warmest winter I've experienced in Baltimore. I've played Ultimate in shorts and a sleeveless t-shirt every weekend this January. That is unheard of. Usually, the fields are covered in snow at this time of year. I love it as far as Ultimate goes, but it sure doesn't feel right.
Yeah, kick it up so the ice knocks down powerlines and we are left freezing our asses off without any computer access. Nice plan.
I'm in AUstin and at home only because I can be. I've spoke to a couple of my vendors, one in Kansas and one in Virginia. They've both basically called all Texans wusses. I agree with them. The panic and overreactions here are hilarious. I know...we aren't typically prepared for this as we don't really need to be. This is a once every few years kind of thing. But to basically shut down a good part of the state because there is some ice somewhere and a threat of more is just funny. I have no problem taking advantage of it even though I could easily get to work.
I'm hoping it freezes just enough to make the overpasses dangerous. That way, we can stay home from work without having to worry about falling tree limbs and loss of power. Friday, my work gave us a 1-800 number to call to see if we would be open on Tuesday. Let's just say I have it on speed dial...
it's houston. a millimeter of freezing rain right before rush hour will stop the city. or at the very least i won't have to show up to work until after lunch.
truthfully, i think it's gonna happen. the national weather service is saying 70% chance of freezing rain after midnight tonight.....the streets are already wet...and it's supposed to continue raining through the day tomorrow.
Oh...so that's how you think it works huh? Shut down a good part of the state because there is ice somewhere. That may be what you Austin folk are doing but up here the ice threat was more serious and people died in accidents as a result.
would it be better if we just acted like there is no ice on the road tomorrow? yeah the roads are fine now but tomorrow it is gonna be crap and I haven't seen any sanding of the roads when I was just out. tomorrow I am planning on leaving for work at about 5am to hopefully avoid the freezing rain, ice, and traffic since I have to drive from oltorf to braker and kramer. I sure as hell won't be driving on any overpasses either.
Oh, don't be such a wussy. I'm going to be doing donuts on all the overpasses tomorrow morning just for fun. Sincerely, leroy420
It's cold in Dallas...Highs in the 30's, low's in the 20's...Highways are a mess, but not the roads around where I am (North Dallas)
they have already cancelled all activites that are happening after 5 pm today- http://www.utexas.edu/spotlight/2007/weather0115.html so I would also agree that classes most likely will be canceled for Tuesday. use this link - http://www.utexas.edu/emergency/ or UT's front page to check the status of the university (whether its open or closed)
just heard that univ of st. thomas is shutting down tomorrow. HISD is watching closely, of course. my guess is they'll make an announcement tonight, given the fact there's a 70% chance of freezing rain overnight.
I'm thinking of heading out to my buddy's place out in Katy so we can play poker all day tonight and tomorrow.
