NO, sir. I know Eldridge Recassner. ONE MORE TIME: He was NOT black. Good guess. Maloney may have been injured, too.
If you could narrow down a year, you could probably tweet an ex rocket who was on that team and just ask them. I know Eldridge Recassner has a basketball camp and is active on Twitter. If it was pre Maloney, '96 sounds right. But it being a white guy, makes '96 seem like the wrong year. Chilcutt was the only white guy on that team, i think.
^ Good point. I should call Rudy T. "Hey, Rudy... what up, G... hey, you 'memmer a time when y'all hired someone for a few days and the guy didn't even have a name on the back of his jersey? No? Oh, come on, man. You 'memmer EVERY player that played for you. Come on! " I might just do that.
Dan Godfread had wavy, dark hair. But he wasn't short. He was 6'9. He was called up on emergency when Larry Smith got injured and Hakeem was already on IR for heart palpitations. Godfread played a game (just one game) on the same day he was signed, so maybe he didn't have a jersey ready.
Perhaps just check the rosters year-by-year yourself for a name that rings a bell? B-R has everyone who played even 1 game for the team.
Why would he ring a bell, if there wasn't a name on his jersey? heypartner is on the right track. Could be Godfread. I noticed he didn't shoot any shots or had any Field Goals, so he might probably be the player we're talking about.
As I said, I do recall a Game Notes mention of someone with a no name, emergency jersey. If you have access to the chron.com archives search for the 11/29/1992 game article.
