I am all for making Bev a starter. If Bev does well, trade Lin. If Bev does not do well, treat Lin like a starter. From my point of view, Lin is clearly a better passer and scorer, whereas Bev is slightly better defender. The problem is I don't know in Rocket's system of Hardencentric offense, whether a PG of Lin's playing style is really needed.

No one is going to stop players like Parker completely. The thing to do is slow him down and make them work for every point they get.
Of course you only saw Bev being scored on, but didn't see all the turnovers and missed shots from Lin.

Would love for you to back this up. Like any pg in the league, Lin and Beverley struggle to defend the top tier pgs. Its not a mystery, pgs run a **** ton of pnr, its a team effort. Neither of then are constantly getting beat off the dribble. Beverley probably has some slightly better defensive numbers ( advanced ) but he comes off the bench, usually against other bench pgs. Lin is one of the better defenders on the team, this notion of him playing bad defense is wrong.

Beverley plays with energy, bounces around ( Toney Douglas, not a great defender either ). Maybe you think Lin is bad because he doesn't look as active. You're wrong though. Its just the easy thing to say for people who really don't know what they are talking about. Beverly also cant score at a good pace. He's a spot up shoots, doesn't create anyrhing in the offense. Dude, its painful tonread some of the **** you post.

Beverley gets more steals. More Blocks. Has a better defensive rating. Has more defensive win shares per minute. Opposing PGs have 3 fewer assists per 48 while turnovers the same with Beverley versus Lin. Lin has slight advantage in points per 48 and Fg% against. Beverley comes in the game when opposing PG is eating Lin's lunch.

    Sources...basketball reference.com, 82games, and watching the games.

Lin is the starter because he is a better facilitator and overall player. That doesn't make him the better defender.

To be fair, most of those numbers are coming against back-up PGs (DJ Augustine, Patty Mills, etc.).

exactly, lin has countered big games by parker/irving,westbrick, and his bff curry. Funny that it was parsons on parker that cooled off the frenchie. I was giving mchale credit for that but as it turns out, chandler decided to take it upon himself.
It's nice having a good back up when shots aren't falling though, like Miller when Lawson couldn't hit water from a lifesaver.

Beverley will be starting by the start of the playoffs (that's if we make it anyway).

my thoughts are that if this coaching staff truly trusts beverley more than lin and that he provides them the best chance of winning... they should start beverley.

if someone has to play perfect to stay in the game, he should not be your starter.

    REPPED.

Didn't know that. I was giving credit to McHale as well. Parsons did it twice - after consecutive buckets by Parker against Lin and then again after consecutive buckets against Bev. I thought it was smart and was looking for him to do it more frequently.

If it was all Parsons' decision... credit to Parsons. Smart dude.

So the back-up point played all game last night? What about during the Spurs game?

Which is why I said "most," badlee. I wasn't discrediting Bev in any way. I really like him as a player. But I was adding a qualifier to the previous poster's statement. And it was correct and irrefutable.

If you don't want to engage in reasonable discussion. Please just leave. I honestly fail to see what you offer or even gain by posting here. You are universally ridiculed and humiliated every 2-3 months (remember "TJones is a lesser Dwight Howard"?) Why do you even come back?

We have had nearly a full season with back-up PG's having to play hero to Lin. They have had to do it way too many times. Time for a switch. Put Lin in that back-up role. Let him be the main scorer coming off the bench.

Won't happen this season. Too much turnover for one season. I do hope they consider it next year. I like Bev a lot. I also like Lin as a 6th man.
