I think the best thing about the Beatles was their sheer joy and inventiveness. In basically six years they set the template for most of the good things in pop music- experimentation, unfettered joy and never, ever taking it all too seriously. So, in addition to their great albums, the Beatles get my vote over the Stones for having a sense of humor and getting out before they became cadavers in tights. Besides, nobody ever wrote as cool as song as "Tommorrow Never Knows."
Righto. Favorite band: Queen. Favorite pop artists: The Beatles. Favorite rock and roll artists: The Rolling Stones. Favorite artists (any genre, be it painiting, the written word, or music): Steely Dan. That said ... why does one have to choose? Mom, or Dad? Left, or right (the hands, not the ideaologues)? Who wants to choose their favorite ice cream? It's ice cream, b****es. It's cold and it's tasty, dig ...
I guess I'm just never gonna get over the one time I posted to NBATalk about the Rockets, calling them the Rox, and you blew off the post making fun of the fact that Rockets fans call them Rox in order to blow of all Rockets fans, which was obviously your basic aim. Since then I've always been surprised that you'd look for community among Rockets fans. Not to mention ever since then I've thought you were an idiot and an *******. Every time you post here, it surprises me anew since, after all, your basic premise back then was that Rockets fans are dumb.
a) is this real? or does it have something to do with the topic of this thread that i'm missing. b) ******* doesn't get *** treatment? c) stones all the way. i like a lot of the beatles songs but the unbelievable amount of cockstroking they get just makes their whole aura and group personality unbearable to me. i mean i read a post like jeff's about the whole AABA thing and figure here's someone who knows way more about music than me saying their unbelievably influential, and you hear artists talk so highly of them all the time, and they are undoubtably the biggest, most successful, most popular band of all time, and i like a lot of their songs (though more early than late i would guess) but then i read a sentence like this: and all that just comes crashing down and i am left with the undeniable fact that the beatles piss me off (nothing against you nyrocket, it was just a good example of what i was looking for). the stones on the other hand do not piss me off and have just as many songs i like, and i like most of their's more anyway, and thus i have to pick them.
ive been a huge beatles fan my whole life, but as ive gotten older ive come to like the stones better (i still love the beatles though). growing up i used to really hate the stones, but it was more that i didnt understand them. while the beatles are doing kids music (not that theres anything wrong w/ that) the stones were more adult, bluesy, dirty, gutteral, ugly and rockingly depraved. the stones are not for children. cause they were comming from the blues, the stones had soul that the beatles were never able to conjure. the beatles are the greatest band ever and arguably the single biggest cultural phenomenon in western civilization, but the stones f***in' rock mate! while the beatles music gets into your head the stones music gets into your pants, baby! stones for me, but they were both one of a kind...were talking apples and apples here.
