In addition to making exceptions for catchweight with Hughs vs Gracie the ufc also did so just a few months ago for Rampage vs Maldonado at UFC 186. I'm sure there are others instances if one bothered to look. So the excuses of not having a 145lb womens division or no catchweight is simply a reason to not make the fight.

In fact Rhonda herself is on record that she would be willing to fight at a 140lb catchweight. Only one problem though, she'd only do it against Gina Carrano, now an actress and nearly 6 years removed from the sport.

 

So you'd have them do the one catchweight fight and then Cyborg wouldn't be able to fight for them anymore? That doesn't really make any sense. Without a 145 woman's weight division there's no way they'd even consider a catchweight fight....nor should they.

The examples you give of previous catchweight fights were people in different weight divisions within the same company, not one person in a weight division and another without one.

The UFC currently doesn't have a super heavyweight division so if there was a super heavyweight fighting for a different company, they wouldn't do a catchweight fight to put them up against the UFC heavyweight champ.

 

The only reason you could possibly not be a fan of Ronda is because she is a woman.

If it were a man doing what Ronda is doing you'd be creaming your jeans over him.

 

I didn't know that there was a fight between ex-UFC fighters Rousimar Palhares and Jake Shields because it was on the same night as Ronda's fight. The fight had a lot of controversy on this one.
