Interestingly Weidman has already knocked out Hall early in both their careers. They're both the same age. I'm pretty sure that was knockdown in rd 1 too. Slight grazes lead to knockdowns all the time in MMA.
i for one dont think its freak accident, to me its like slamming to get out of a submission and knocking the guy out. You are suppose to check to hurt the guy kicking and mess his legs up, knee > shin.
Yeah that was as gruesome as a UFC fight can get. He's done. Just a bad 2 fight ending to a great career. I'm surprised that does not happen more often.
As if a majority of other athletes that have suffered similar leg breaks don't end up screaming in pain like that for a while. Not sure why that is big news.
38 is not 40. I was only slightly disappointed with his TUF final performance. I'm one of those that believe he won that fight albeit close. Yeah like you said that will take a while to happen. Enough people already in line for Weidman. I'm a Uriah fan but he isn't ready and Dana knows he isn't. Uriah hasn't shown enough yet and like you wrote, he needs more polish.
Seriously... what do they expect? I can't even imagine what that feels like... bumping furniture with the shin is super painful, let alone snapping it like that. Is there a medical reason why they didn't give him a painkilling injection right away?
He's got so much potential, though. With a couple years of good polishing, he would put on a hell of a fight against Weidman, in my opinion.
El Gnomo and tehglide, feel free to spoiler those pics and gif. Not like it is gruesome or anything like that. Not at all. Was thinking while I sit here saddened by the way the fight ended and how Spider might be done, the leg break he suffered might be the one that sticks in my mind above any other in any sport(and I've seen my fair share of Soccer leg breaks). Even the Kevin Ware one, as bad as it was, it didn't get the UFC camera treatment and I feel that's what will make this one stick in the mind. Those UFC camera replays in slow-mo just made the footage of this injury way worse.
Man, I don't even know. Any Doctors or nurses in this thread that can chip in with info? I figured they would sedate him almost immediately. I don't think I can complain the next time I bump into furniture with my shin or stub my toe.
Didn't watch the fight, but twitter got flooded with the break, it looked disgusting. Feel bad spider had to go out like that
He's probably got pain meds by now. They would have to review his medical history and see what his allergies were, etc, I'm sure (as if they haven't done that). He's probably headed for surgery here within a few hours, I would assume. I imagine he was screaming backstage because of the way it ended, coupled with the fact that he was in pain, coupled with the realization that his career was over. I'm no doctor, I just drink a lot of Dr. Pepper.
God what a disappointing ending. One of my favorite fighters ends his career in the most painful way. brb eating fast food and drowning myself in this greasy delicious philly cheesesteak burger courtesy of T.O.
Both obviously gross, but IMO, Kevin Ware was much worse. I was mid-meal and damn near tossed grits when I saw that. You could see INSIDE HIS BONE. Twitter has spoken lol... these people are crazy with the insta-memes.
