White had periods of struggle last year, he had a real bad period last year when promoted. I am not overly worried about the average at this point, it is all about adjustments and we will need to see if he adapts. The only concern I have is that he is swinging and missing more than he has in the past. That could be a problem long term. Time will tell.
This certainly means nothing.... but out of all the former Astro rookies they showed that had the same sort of similar success that White had, none of them went on to do anything of note in their MLB careers (this includes Towles, Josh Anderson, James Mouton). Again, this is only those that had a great first few weeks, or even first great month. Obviously, guys like Bagwell, Springer and Correa all were ROY-types with tremendous first overall seasons.
It is time for Reed to replace White. White needs to get back to attacking early in the count, and not acting like every inside pitch is going to hit him (just to watch it be a called strike).
He is making good contact lately. Could have had a couple of hits yesterday if it weren't for bad luck. He has a lot of work to do to get that avg back up though. I think he has made adjustments and we should start to see some of that Tyler White we saw in week #1. Looking for a big homestand.
Remember when Tyler White won player of the week honors in Week 1? In his past 14 games he's gone 5-for-51 (.098) with 15 strikeouts. Baseball is a tough game, kids. -- David Schoenfield
White was slashing .211/.296/.386 when he was demoted to AAA. I cringed when they were talking about White buying a new Range Rover. I wonder if he knew he was about to get sent down.
White hitting .266/.337/.376 at AAA Fresno. Pretty good hitter's park. Interesting that he's played 5 games at 1B, 10 games at 2B, 22 games at 3B, and 6 games at SS.
If Tyler White can be Boston Kevin Youkilis type of hitter, it's a huge addition for the lineup, especially for the coming years.
.270/.350/.480 is not at all unreasonable for him over the course of a full season of playing everyday. The guy can hit. In my mind he’s cemented his roster spot to open next season and will either be the everyday 1B (moving Gurriel into Marwins role) or the everyday DH (replacing Gattis).
I usually don't care for this kind of critique, but if they plan on making him the starting 1B (I think DH is more likely to be his primary position) then it would be nice if he could improve his conditioning. His range seems extremely limited even for 1B.
