LOL, realistic? McGrady was an absolute cancer this year. Getting rid of him is addition by subtraction. Alston's game picked up quite a bit but his poor shooting % was always a handicap. I would have liked some more veteran leadership at the point but trading a PG to get a PG is always problematic. BTW, I predicted earlier this season that sooner or later Brooks was going to move into the starting lineup.
Great post, not because it is 100% accurate, but because you can see the light. The Clutch City Houston Rockets are all about winning a NBA CHAMPIONSHIP! And all the posters bashing you don't get it. This team is in total disarray and needs to be overhauled. So many of them said give RA time to install his offense, sorry wrong personnel. This team has no defensive intensity and can't compete with the top 4 teams in the league at all. They would be blown out. Reality is trading Rafer is a non factor. Reality is that before we win another championship both TMac and Yao will be former Rockets. You know why? Because we have to accept the fact that TMac and Yao cannot play to Adelman's strengths as a coach, TMac is injured goods and losing it mentally, no guarantees for Yao staying out of the operation room, and the rest of team is nothing special without 2 really good superstars. TMac will not be here after 2010. Yao will be older, slower and none the better in 2011 And even if we had a stockpile of high #1 draft picks it is hit and miss drafting a Lebron, Chris Paul, Kobe. There are just as many busts in the top five as future hall of fame players. No Rocket fans reality is the TMac/Yao era was our opportunity. If Van Gundy would have been given a few more pieces (good players) something he never had to put around TMac/Yao- would he have gotten us there with is defensive intensity and drive for perfection? We'll never know. Will Adelman get us there? Only if we give him two superstars that he can use in an uptempo motion offensive system with a good strong bench. Dream got us there. Our dreams are shattering right before our eyes. The TMac saga, Artest wasn't/isn't the answer, Yao struggling to improve to a 30/12 superstar. We have ???? everywhere. No folks, this team will rebuild before it ever wins another NBA championship and that IS the goal. There is no other goal. Money, greed, and pride won't let us trade Yao, but if we got a couple of good young players and 2 good #1 draft picks from a probable lottery team we could save some time and get the overhaul moving. Do you really think we are going to have a great TMac next season? Or do you thing there is a player of Kobe's caliber we are going to sign this off season. No franchises bottom out holding on to dreams too long. Until Dream-2 appears in a Rocket uniform we are going to struggle to get out of the first round if we make the playoffs. Now that I got all that negativity out I can be objective- this is one disappointing season.
Here's some unsolicited advice: If you want to start a thread with meaningful dialog, don't open it up by saying that all the thread starters except you are clueless.
If Yao Ming is American and went to school here, he will be a Hall of Famer, no doubt about it. Probably beasting it up right now by putting up 28/14/3/3
You know what would be funny? We win the championship this year (with or without Mcgrady) and revisit this thread. That would be hilarious. You know what they say, haters always hate.
i agree with what that other guy said about the kids on this forum. why call him names and profess his idiocy? thats not a debate. thats just childish. now while i do agree with ALOT of the OP, i disagree with a big point. tracy mcgrady. he is not a very good team player. pretty much everything you said about tmac, the swagga, the last second game winners, the explosive scoring, all that stuff may have been true a few years ago, but certainly hasn't been in the last several years. THE BIG problem, is that tmacs game depends on the ball being in his hands alot. and the problem with this is he is not a finisher. jordan, duncan, kobe, lebron, pierce, all those guys WILL their team to win, and hit game winners more often than not. Tmac regularly chokes due to his mental weakness, his self doubt, and therefore cannot be depended on to lead a team. can he pop off for 30+? sure, but at the expense of team basketball. all the winning teams of the past several years never had such mentally soft players as tmac as the centerpiece. he never really hit many game winners in orlando! this is why he will never get passed the first round. everything else you said i agree with. i wonder if the majority of insults aimed at you are due to the chinese nationalism. he is a slow, no defense playing 20-10. who cares how well he scores? its the same as tmac, his offense is not worth being the focus due to all the negatives to his game. he makes the rockets an INSANE amount of money, and thats why he is the focus. i am not as pessimistic as OP, but i have my doubts if the rockets can win it all unless they get a legit superstar that can be the focus. then i think the rox could do it with yao... i wouldnt get rd of him though.
Any 20/10 guy will get starts, bank on that. Whether he is American, Chinese, Indian, whatever, but I do agree with some points that the topic creator made in regard to McGrady. With that said, I also agree with the organization when they say that we need a healthy McGrady and not an injured one. You guys should also admit that the organization did somewhat seem to throw McGrady under the bus, which may give merit to what Stephen Smith said. For all of you Wafer fans, I hope that this thing works out and that we can advance. I don't know why, but something about this team seems to bring out the worst in some players. McGrady went from being a 2-time scoring champion to getting progressively worse every year since he arrived. Artest was also much better before arriving here; this has been happening since the Pippen days. I hope that everything goes well this postseason and wish McGrady the best of luck, regardless.
And I'd be as happy as the rest, and admit that I was wrong. A lot of you might be getting the wrong impression, that I just made declarations and everyone else is wrong- false, I stated my idea, supported it with my insight, and defended it later on. But then I get, your an idiot, lock the thread etc... why? Because i posted my ideas and thoughts on the state of certain matters with the team?
You would really show me by demoting me... I will say this again for the last time, it has nothing to do with the color of his skin. I am not racist, one of my good friends is asian. My point is, becuase he is chineese he brings in so much revenue, because all the revenue he brings in the team treats him like he is so much more valuable than he actually is. After a few years of our slow paced offense not really working, and him not being strong on defense, we would trade him, or limit his minutes. But because all the money he brings in, we would be stupid (revenue wise) to get rid of him.
Here is some advice: If you want to quote me, or accuse me of saying something, then do it. Do not make things up and say that I said it.
I guess the fact that he is regarded as one of the top 2 centers in the game by just about everyone in the sports journalism world is lost on you
