Many, considering the style of play in the NBA. Who was the Celtics Center last year? A no name role player Who was the Spurs Center year prior? A no name role player Pistons? Ben Wallace A centers role now a days is rebounding, defending the paint, and deferring to occasionally to open things up, as well as putting things back on missed layups or shots. You don't need a center to score 25 points a night

Who cares how well Rafer does in Orlando he couldn't do it here for several seasons under muiltiple coaches. And if our play off chances hinged on a point guard that can not even average 40% shooting then we are in deep poo any way.

I agreed, I didn't even disagree with the trade. I am saying people are going to be like 'why did we get rid of alston, look how good he does in orlando' when its obvious the system is better fit for alston.
Im in just about total agreement with the OP and have said most of those things at some point or another myself. I haven't really passed judgement on Artest yet though since he was hurt and playing out of place off the bench.
