The truth: Ron, with a bad ankle, is more clutch than Yao and more heart than Mac.

From the Associated Press article on the game:

You have to appreciate Artest's desire to win. But McGrady did this earlier in the season with Battier out, and my guess is Battier and McGrady are playing more than they should right now as well to compensate for one another.

Will this rotation of "playing hurt because someone else is even more hurt" keep players from returning to full health? Will it prevent the team from becoming healthy in the long run?

Given the potential of the Rockets this year, this is becoming really frustrating to watch.

i can see where you come from. and you're entitled to what you have to say.

what i have a problem with is that in this thread, someone shows a stat of yao's 4th quarter efficiency this season, and others come in and say "i don't care about the numbers, i just know yao is not clutch". kinda makes me disinterested in talking about this topic.

2 more cents. ron got the calls in the 2nd ot, because he's better at creating contact and forcing the zebras to call fouls. also, had yao had say 15 pts in the 4th, he'd have a godly akeem-like performance. even though he didn't, his game tonight was solid and his defense was super (if there was such a thing called "clutch defense", then yao'd be entitled to it tonight).

You have to respect that Ron went to the hoop HARD with an ankle so swollen it was all Bill, Bull and Clyde talked about all game. Much respect to 96.

    Here is a stat.

    1-8

That is Yao's FGM/FGA from the 4 minute mark in the 4th when the score was 89-84 Rockets lead to the end of the 2nd OT. If he would have converted at least one more it prolly would have iced the game.

    http://www.nba.com/games/20081227/UTAHOU/playbyplay.html

Playing the woulda coulda shoulda game and "if" games is very telling of a defense to a player. Instead we should just call a spade a spade.

And I agree Yao made a few great blocks, not denying that. But since we are playing the "if" game, if Yao makes those shots, he wouldn't have had to make those spectacular blocks.

Yao just looked gassed out at the end of this game. He had his head down and was sucking wind every chance he had.

He's gotten better about it than in previous seasons, but this game, the end-of-game fatigue seemed to have really gotten to him.

We just have to face the fact that more than other players, Yao's minutes have to be carefully watched.

I think Adelman should give him a little more time off...maybe 1-2 minutes in the middle of the 4th.....bring him back in with 5 minutes left instead of 7.

Yao should not be our go to guy at the end of a tight game, coz his moves are very limited and predicatble, and 99% of the time he would be exhausted by the end of the game which further lowers his effectiveness.

Critcism isn't hatn'n. If your mom says you're fat son you need to get out of the house more you wouldn't call that hatn'n. She just says that because she loves you. Now if your mom says "Son you're a FAT bleep bleep bleep" then that's hatn'n. I didn't call Yao She-Yao, YaoPussBleep, YaoLazy, etc. That is hatn'n. Besides every posters on this forum criticizes some player. I'm sure you do too!

well said, but you know what--your mom said has nothing to do with me,caz I ant you fking dad, got it,boy.

The funny thing is you don't hear Ron saying he is "Gutting it out" ....he just says the Adrenilin gets flowing, and anything to help the team.

Good to hear.....and it would be nice if Tmac was listening.

there's been more than a few games just this season where yao has had his best quarter and carried the team in the 4th. he was clearly gassed today and yes "unclutch" if you will, but i'm confused as to where the idea came that he tightens up in crunch. i don't see it. In the 4th quarter I want the ball in yao's hands, because i know he'll deliver more often than not.

i said earlier i could agree to yao was not clutch IN THIS GAME. what you're saying is nothing more than that. and i wonder what is the op's point to create a thread just to say the obvious.

still, this season, yao's been our most efficient scorer in the 4th. no if's, no but's.

I don't think Yao is a choker so much as I think his thought process when the game gets tight is flawed. We saw tonight what happens oftentimes, even when he is successful in the fourth. He starts shying away from contact and going to his moves that give him open looks but lesser percentage chances to score.

Lo and behold his 1-8 performance at the end of the game. What was his only made bucket? That time he turned into the double-team and got within 2ft of the basket to roll it up and in. Every time he did his baseline roll fadeaway jumper (a.k.a Shanghai Shake)? Nothing but brick.

As Artest showed tonight, it doesn't matter if you make the shot or not as long as you are fearless and move towards the contact. Utah like Ann Coulter in bed fouls often and willingly. Let them put Yao at the line where he is money.

I already responded to you about if Yao being unclutch only pertains to this game.

It's been brought up BEFORE THIS GAME. Click the link. Yao has been unclutch many times before and members have brought it up before.

And how many of those games in the 4th this season were close games? We're not discussing about Yao's efficiency. We are talking about Yao's clutchness or lack thereof at the end of tight close ballgames.

Ron Artest made me a fan for life tonight. I was at the game and the entire building was shouting his name.

He did what McGrady and Yao never do in crunch time: He went to the basket with intensity with the intend of scoring or getting fouled. He's not quicker than T-Mac, not more explosive, not taller than Yao, but when you go with authority, you either score or get the call.

Wish T-Mac was there in person, sitting his ass on the bench and taking notes. None of that jump shot crap.

why don't you show us that stat? and also name a few clutch players in your books and show their stats? it's you who are trying to prove a point, anyway.

yao has been unclutch, as well as being clutch. to me he's not particularly clutch, nor the opposite. what is the freaking point to bring this up after a hard-fought win when yao played solid?

    for yao, even after a win and he was 26/11/4(blks), it's "yao wasn't clutch, otherwise no ot" shiit;

for mcgrady, when he had a 3-double, it's like hail mcgrady; then after he plays like crap, it's like "he's hurt", "give him time to heal".

i'm not saying that's what you did, since i don't try to remember who has posted what. but that is what i got lately (and often in the past) from this board.

how about the Portland game when Yao scored a 2+1 with 0.8 sec to go, which could have given us the win? (though Roy got the miracle 3).

how about JUST 3 games back when Yao scored over Al Jefferson in the last minute when we desperately needed it, and sealed the deal for the game?

    How quickly people forgot things.

Why don't you dig up that stat yourself? And prove me wrong in the process.

All I did was provided you a link where other members have brought up this topic before. So don't act like it's a one game thing.

Yeah keep using Tmac as a diversion to the real topic of Yao's unclutchness. When all arguments fail, drag in Tmac cause it's the in thing these days.

These threads are stupid. Enjoy your team and stop trying to drive wedges between our players. (Except for Rafer, he sucks). Every player on this team has thier ups and downs, stop bandwagoning.
