There is no "TRUTH" only speculation, even if Morey himself told you he was in the bag, it would not be true.

Only Nene knows the TRUTH !

It is over and done with. Not that I tell this to my wife as the team goes through suckfests.

As far as Nene, he reportedly had his doubts about McHale, which turned out to be reasonable. Nene might have just stuck it out in Denver anyway.

Hope Morey always has ideas and plans and phone calls working. I imagine he does; we have 3 deep at most spots, to whatever level of talent...EXCEPT stars, for now and for the future.

This. The Rockets had a chance to add Gasol, sign Nene AND re-sign Chuck Hayes. Three guys who can all play center. Nene didn't want to be stuck playing all his minutes at center in Denver. Mozgov starts and plays a few minutes as the nominal starting center.

The Rockets could have offered Nene more PER SEASON than the Nuggets eventually signed him for. When you add in the state income tax difference, you were only talking about a small difference in total salary, with Nene still able to make more money after four years to make up for the fifth year Denver was able to offer.

Such a small total difference and a chance to join Gasol on one of the top front lines in the league made the Rockets a more likely destination than returning to Denver (whose management he was pissed at for not offering him an extension sooner).

    I'm convinced of this.

Bima, Was that the MAX that Denver could offer him? I contend they would have upped their offer to keep him if they were forced to.

I know you are convinced, but there is nothing that says it is true....just pure speculation.

    There is no proof, nothing.

Waiting on those teams for leverage. The Nuggets offered a 55M extension, he was rumored to be after 90M.

There is quite a bit of circumstantial evidence though.

    McHale on the Denver flight.
    Rumours aplenty of Pau/Denver
Nene not signing with Denver for aaages (until the Pau deal was finally dead, done and dusted)

I am not saying we did not want him, that much is obvious.

I am saying that he was using us as leverage.

    Agreed with DrNuegebauer's response.

There's rarely any real proof of ANYTHING in scenarios like these, with so many things in motion and so many possible outcomes.

We'll never know for sure. But I'm still convinced.

Feel free to be convinced otherwise. If that helps you sleep better, more power to you. :p

You did not answer my question.

Was Denver able to offer more than what he signed for?

He signed after the Nets pulled their offer.

If the Nets offer were still on the table he would have had the leverage to ask for the extra 16M from Denver.

It's OK for you to speculate, but not others? Your thinking is as much "not truth" as anyone else's.

I agree with him (and you) as well. Morey intended to have Gasol, Nene, and Hayes, which would have been a contending front line with Lowry. It was set up, and Stern screwed us and the other two teams over.

Valid point.....This is all speculation but in my opinion Bima had the most convincing argument.

LOL - ok, so this is now about whom you want to believe.

    Got it.

I am still waiting on Bima to answer whether Denver could have increased their offer if they had to.....
