I have to refrain from urging you to enlist again. But here's a question for you, are you reality-based or faith-based?
If he doesn't, I sure as hell do. That's was it was and is. If you think otherwise then I'm not sure who you're trying to fool... yourself, or just everyone else. Frankly, I think you know damn well it was elective, but you can't help yourself from defending Bush's elective war because you're stubborn and, well, Bush did it. Afghanistan was completely different, as you and the vast majority of the rest of the world know full well. (damn, this can get tiresome.) Keep D&D Civil!!
"The buck stops here." I guess you would find that statement meaningless, having been made by a Democratic President. Keep D&D Civil!!
i think you need to re-read my post....and yes, it does get tiresome to have to continually make that request.
Whoops. I apologize. You were simply asking a question. That was fun to post, however. Maybe I'll bookmark it, so I can have it for when it's needed.
It is both surprising and commendable that you refrained from the "evil liberal" route your brother took. Kudos.
The troops are great. We should support them. That is why we need to bring them home and quit wasting them on stupid wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
You've lived up to your word here, but this smacks of some condescension. You don't think that BJ's sympathies lie with the terrorists, because he has proven that he supports our troops by creating a thread about it? You never should have levelled that accusation in the first place.
But if you read the post, it shows that it doesn't drip with sarcasm directed at the troops, just people who are so off base to believe that one can't report on factual events unless they post threads that are feel good as well. That is what the sarcasm is against.
i agree blade, and not that he can't defend himself but i must say he was kinda backed into a corner. i just had beers with batman and basso not too long ago. i guess the chances of that happening again are pretty slim.
I didn't say that the sarcasm was pointed at the troops. I did read the post. I think Batman was earnest in his praise, he just resents the hell out of "having" to do something besides criticize anything the Bush Administration is associated with.
I'll let batman post for himself, but I would be willing to bet that he would love to have praise galore to heap on the Bush administration. I think what he resents is that some people can't accept valid criticism of actual events unless for some reason a person also praises people who are doing their job. But some people go even farther. They claim that anyone who doesn't trumpet the troops doing their job doesn't care about the troops, or appreciate the U.S. It is ironic that those that participate in this un-American type of activity are the ones who claim to love America so much. I bet batman would be happy had Bush gotten the inspectors in and didn't pull them out to go to war, and we found out Saddam didn't have the weapons, and Bush had really built up a new free Afghanistan that was able to sustain itself free from war lords and the drug trade, and that OBL had been caught. I think we'd all be happy to sing the praises of anyone who accomplished those things. But that isn't the case, so we sing the reality of comment on facts. Rather than argue those facts others tend to just decry the patriotism and loyalty of folks like batman. It is shameful really.
In the early days of the Afghanistan action, I loudly trumpeted praise on Bush. I hoped for exactly what you describe here. Then came Iraq.
