Also, good touch on condescendingly calling me "junior", establishing your superiority due to your very advanced age and post count .
couple of more thoughts on this: *i want to clarify that i love the signing and i am sure we will all be very pleased with trevor. he will be a huge part of this team. a building block. that does not mean he has any type of star potential. he can definitely increase his scoring average by having a large role in our system or maybe improving his shooting. but he doesn't have any type of GAME that he can just grow into by virtue of going to a new environment. these young players that explode upon going to new teams/having larger roles all already had the skillset. kevin martin, mcgrady, devin harris etc. young perimeter players blow up by adjusting to the league, gaining weight, improving their shot, getting a chance, or a combination of all of these factors. they DO NOT blow up by developing handles. if you are an NBA guard, you either have it or you don't. *i don't know where the lamar odom comparison is coming from. lamar odom was the next magic johnson coming out. were it not for character issues, he would have been the #1 pick. *look at tracy mcgrady. he currently has two speeds: slow and slower. in fact, i would argue that he hasn't had above average athleticism since 2004. he rarely drives to the hoop out of fear, but he is great at creating. how? because he has incredible handles and incredible body control. you can't develop this if you haven't been doing it since age 12/13 or whatever. t-mac with his broken down body can still get himself free for a shot or drive halfway in and get a teammate a look just simply by using his skillset. he can switch hands, go behind his back, spin, keep his balance, basically do anything with a basketball. now take von wafer. the only way he can get to the basket is using his speed and quickness. this is NOT ball handling ability or creating ability. this just makes him a great slasher. players that can create rarely RELY on their athleticism. obviously it helps, but that's not what is creating the separation.
lol. you got me with that. I was half kiddin' with him and Lamar. They sure have similar body types. I admit I went a lil overboard with the comparison. But what an athlete. And Yes he took several shots in traffic, even fade aways. That looked smooth.
no comment.... absolutely no comment. wow. i think we have some dumb people on here.. wow.... i think i just got dumber... wow wow wow.. chriss boch lmao. sorry but wow..
That's why I read every post. I was going to say the exact same thing. The shane part 2 doesn't match because he'll get 4-6 points in transition. When brooks and scola run, he will be there also. He will also attack the rim off curls and put the ball on the floor when defenders close out wrong. I don't think he will ever be a 20 ppg type guy, but similar to what ronnie brewer does in Utah;thats trevor.
someone mentioned this very comparison to me shortly after the signing and i have to say, this is probably the only star comparison for trevor ariza that i have seen that is realistic. howard does a lot of damage with his mid-range jumpshot. trevor doesn't have one, but that can certainly be developed. i'm not holding my breath on trevor becoming josh howard and would definitely bet against it, but i don't see any reason as to completely rule out the possibility. it could happen.
I am hoping he delivers around 15 ppg, 5 to 6 rpg and 3 to 4 apg. His defense should net 2 steals per game and 1 block per game.
I know what you mean!! Money ain't everything, but he needs it. On the serious side, I think Ariza can be a blend between Battier and Pippen.
Trevor Ariza makes me very excited about being a Rockets fan. I've always liked the way he plays and hope to see his game evolve more. It would be nice to see him develop a better mid-range game. Without TMac, I can see him averaging 15-16 ppg. I think that dips slightly with Mcgrady's return or if we trade for the star player we are hopng for.
If Ariza can become as good as Iguodala, that would be just incredible. I don't think AI is a true 1st class star in the league, but he definitely is a specimen. Athletic and can get to the rim at will.
he will be nothing like iguodala except probably in defense. he cant pass, shoot, or dribble anywhere near as good as iguodala so theres no point in trying to think them 2 as alike. maybe if he could become the next tayshaun prince, that'll make the whole board go wild and moreyball explode
Realistically I would expect to see him average around 11-15 ppg, 5-6 reb, and around 2 steals per game. I like the Tayshaun prince and gerald wallace comparisons, I really think he has the potential to become that kind of a player...
I think he will be a good player, not a star but a really good player. Hopefully to a Danny Granger level but we'll see how he does without any star around him. He will have Mcgrady later in the season but lets see how he'll do now that all the spotlight is on him.
lol its funny how you guys speak like as if Trevor Ariza is some sort of superstar college player who just came out of the draft and we picked him at no. 3 in the first round or something.......or how hes going to develop into the next danny granger or lebron james....... but man this dude has been in the league for 5 years now!!! Whatever potential he ever had when he came out of college is pretty much evident now! he is a veteran not some sort of rookie whos still yet to adjust to the nba and experience the nba game...hes been here and done that for 5 years now and we're still speaking of potential? He's near his ceiling already and tahts that. Trevor has as much chance as becoming a much better player and still containing loads of "potential" as Steve Novak has "potential".
