Its not easy to compare the stats of 2 10-13 mpg guys. Von outscored him, Sasha out-everything-elsed him. There was a reason Phil loved that Von-Sasha matchup, Sasha held Von to 42% (tho Sasha himself shot horribly)
Again, he played the exact same style..... Trevor has been a complimentary player who played off the ball and rarely created or dribbled into traffic. If that is what he is expected to do here in Houston, great...but that means Battier needs to go....we don't need 2 of those types of players. We need a 2nd creating penetrating player to help Brooks. DD
Wait what? Von shot 42%...what did Sasha shoot against Von's allegedly HORRIBLE D? Come on now, be honest. DD
Pretty sure scoring off the bench against scrubs and being the best player and an all-star are a little bit different. In fact, its similar to the jump we're expecting from Trevor.
Starks was cut by multiple teams before signing with the Knicks? I dont recall that ever being the case I just remember an incident when he was either trying out for the team or a rookie in practice where Ewing knocked him down when trying to go for a dunk and injured his ankle or knee. I cant speak for Elie I dont remember him being an issue in Golden State or Portland, but I could be wrong on that is there anything you can recall that would be the same as Von being released/cut/waived by 3 different teams (or is it 4?) Elie was an issue here in Houston though, for the opponents
Trevor Ariza offensively reminds me of Joe Johnson, with more alert defense. He can play the passing lanes. Trevor improved his 3 pointer a lot last year and significantly helped the lakers win the championship. He probably had the most impact not name kobe or gasol. He can definitely average somewhere along 18 points 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 1.5 steals next year.
Wow, you guys are just getting too CRAZY. Offensively? Ariza has no handles what so ever. He can only shoot when he's receiving a pass. He can never create for others. He can not create for himself. Do you think Ariza can average 21 points and average 6 assists a game? Wow....
if you don't remember Joe Johnson was just a stand up shooter with phoenix. It wasn't until he got to ATL, where he showed what he could really do. Ariza hasn't really showed what he can do since there's a guy name Kobe on his team, but there are glimpses that shows he can drive, when he gets a chance <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8mAajbn6O_M&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8mAajbn6O_M&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
as for the topic I think Ariza can develop into one of the better 2 way players of the game. He isnt going to be the type to face up fake and drive and juke defenders on the way to the rim, but he can put the ball on floor and take it strong to the rim. I think someone saying a rashard lewis light is a good ceiling, though i think at least from the perimeter and attacking the rim he can be as good as Rashard if his shot keeps improving the way it did in the 2nd half of last year. He wont even have the same type of post game as Rashard though. I dont think he will be a playmaker the way Tmac is, but within Adelman's offense I think he will be able to make the correct/right pass and help create for others that way.
W/ Yao or Tmac maybe 12-13ppg. With no Tmac or Yao 10ppg. He is great player when you are close to winning a championship, but he has no shot creating ability.
Thats reaching. I see his improvement as far as ppg somewhere in the 15-16 ppg range, just slightly above his career. Winning this season will have to be a real team effort so his assist may increase as well.
correct but you noticed they didn't rely on Vujacic' shooting efficiency as much as our bench play did on Von's.
Joe Johnson was the back-up point guard in Phoenix. there is a huge difference between dribbling the ball and getting to the basket via an opening in the defense and actually creating a shot off the dribble with a defender in front of you and the defense in position. based on some of these comparisons, a lot of you vastly underestimate the importance of ball handling. i don't want to get into one of my rants on this again as it is one of my pet peeves, but for the most part, unless you are dribbling a basketball fluidly by your teen years, it's not something that will come later. it's never happened. and tracy mcgrady was starting at point guard by the end of his 3rd year in toronto.
lmao to that UG2TBK Trev showed as much as grit and passion and beyond that during the playoffs with his intangibles whereas Wafer.... yeah... wilted. No blame there. Both young players. Care to remember when Trev smacked Rudy Fernandez hard down to the court. That was pure passion and competitiveness. You thought of Vendetta? Wrong.
I certainly don't believe he is going to turn into a Joe Johnson, but he was a really nice player for the Lakers last year, and he's going to be a really nice player for our favorite team for years to come. I don't think he's done improving, as he is still on the young side and he will be given a role here that he hasn't had before. I just don't know if he has the handles. He needs to keep working on his J too -- he shot out of his mind in the playoffs, and it would be great if that continued.
Ariza is probably going to become a James Posey, slightly overpaid. Hopefully he can actually DEVELOP.
