If they would get the quality of their products to the standard of Toyota/Lexus, Nissan/Infiniti, Honda/Acura, and BMW, then yea, I'll buy American.
Well, shut my mouth then! But you notice that the 3 series is not on that list and how many people here drive a 5 series or 7 series or would want that?
HA Least reliable -small car 1. Volkswagen Golf (turbo) 2. Volkswagen Jetta (turbo) 3. Volkswagen New Beetle Large Sedan 10. Volkswagen Passat (AWD) Manny, true, I'd be interested in reading their full report to see where exactly the 3 series lands but as I'm not in the market for a new car, I won't be spending my money to subscribe to CR
Well, each of those manufactuers, besides BMWs, make many of their cars here in America. Although, I believe the 350Z is built exclusively in Japan. Nissan has a huge plant in Tennessee that makes most of their US sold vehicles though. The whole domestic/import line of car building has been quite fuzzy for a long time now. In fact, most Hondas that are sold here in the US are built here in the US. Most GM Trucks and SUVs are built in Canada or Mexico. I had a guy looking to buy my GMC truck a few weeks ago and he went on and on about how much he loved American built trucks. I hated to tell him that my particular truck that he was looking to buy was actually built in Canada. He didn't buy it.
Volkswagen is really taking a beating over the last 5 years or so. Their product has been crap and their customer service even worse. They keep this up and theyll find themselves having to out price Kias to stay in the market.
looks like the Lexus LF-A concept http://pressroom.toyota.com/photo_library/display_photos.html?index=fulltext&kw=conLFA
Yup the sedan has been upped to 298 as well. Infiniti makes some amazing cars. My favorite is still the M45 - 340 HP V8!
I know you were being funny but actually the main plant is in Smyrna which is between Nashville and Murfreesboro on I-24 and there is a plant that makes the drivetrains and axles (?) in the little podunk town of Decherd, TN about 20 minutes from where I live. And codell, I have made that same argument to my father about how a lot of the cars I am driving were actually made in the US compared to his Fords which were made like in Mexico or somewhere outside the US. Yet, he always comes back to me, rather smugly I might add, with a "Oh yeah? What country gets the bottom line profit off of it? US or Japan?"
They're slower and rotaries tend to melt into useless slags of metal after 100K or less. And did I mention they suck gas? Go with the VQ-powered Z any day. Or better yet, the G35 coupe. Always need a 2+2 rather than a parcel shelf.
I have a VW GOLF and I've had absolutley no problems at all. (knock on wood). I got lucky and didn't get a lemon...
Then you should get one. Nobody else seems to want them and they were discounting the hell out of them. I loved the marketing : "The muscle car with brains". Duh. lol. From what I recall, I liked the interior, but the exterior looks like a throwback to some 70's Impala or something.
