He was literate. There are references in the book of John to the Jews marvelling that Jesus "knoweth letters" and also about how Jesus wrote. There's a mention in Luke as well about Jesus reading. John 7:15 John 8:8 Luke 4:17-20

This guy is obviously just trying to create controversy to cash in - and apparently it's working. Even though he lost the law suit how much publicity did he get out of suing Dan Brown? Dan Brown is also loving the controversy -- it sells books. If you believe the Bible Jesus was either the Son of God or a lunatic who died for nothing. Obviously the people who know him believed he was Son of God or else they wouldn't have gone through what they did to get his meesage out. Peter, John, Timothy, Paul received no personal gain (and alot of hardship) for standing by Jesus' message.

not quite 100% true. yes the society was much more oral than now, but there were people who could read and write, and not just arabic. many times there were letters sent to the leaders of other clans and the prophet pbuh would seal it. the contract between the makkans and the muslims was also written down. so no not everyone was illiterate, and yes muhammad pbuh was uneducated in that way.
