Scola is one of our best players, probably the best the only one with a lot of rings, he has a championship heart. Nobody had said anything aboaut his defence when the center was Yao or Mutombo. Bring a real Center and the things gonna be diferent.
Morey is good but he is no magician. We will need to trade some assets to get back something good. The key is to trade assets while they are highly sought after. For example, I believe we missed an opportunity during the off-season to trade Brooks while his value was very high. I do not think many peope would disagree with the statement that we could have gotten more for Brooks last summer than we could get today. I love Scola but I think his value today is likely higher than it has ever been in the past and, due to his age, his value likely in the future.
Morey has built a team that has a lot of great players pound for pound and inch for inch. Problem is, in the NBA, other teams have guys who are longer, stronger, and more athletic. That's why we are losing. A lack of height is killing us - not just in rebounding, but in getting good shots or making passes. It's not like GM's are calling off the hook for any of our players including scola. Trade him for what? Do people think we'll get a whole lot? Daryl Morey has basically put the entire team on fire sale yet there hasn't been much biting. Probably means he's overvalued his players and watching their play it shows. Honestly, this is why I didn't want to let T-mac go even if he was sucking it up. You just can't get that sort of talent easily. Maybe we've been spoiled over the years...but right now we are trapped in no man's land. That 10th-7th seed area where you pretty much suck but are still too good to get real draft picks.
Scola has consistently knocked down clutch jumpers, to me it's one of his best qualities. Nobody makes every shot is the clutch, he had a bad game. Anybody who doesn't think Scola isn't clutch needs to watch more games.
Sorry to dissappoint. There is a reason why Patterson is not playing heavy minutes. He is good but needs time to develop more consistency. Today was a bad shooting night for him. Scola should only traded for a superstar or a young upcoming allstar!
Do you actually expect Scola to take over a game? If so you need to lower your expectations, this will help you: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/7304509.html This feels tragic because it shouldn't be, but Scola has been our second most productive scorer in the clutch and First in FG% according to 82games.com. This numbers are down from the beginning of the year when he came through a lot although most were in losing efforts (he came through, others did not) http://www.82games.com/1011/CSORT11.HTM I don’t expect him to be neither the solution nor the closer but at least I’m comfortable having the ball in his hands during crunch time, he is a smart player. You can pick up videos of him scoring late in wins from Rockets2K's highlights, I'm sure you'll find plenty. By the way, I’ve said I'm ok with trading Scola but based in our need for defense not some knee jerk about his offense.
In conjunction to putting the ball on the floor and take his man off the dribble down low, I’m still waiting to see Patrick’s post-up game because so far it has been non-existent. The few times he has tried it has been awkward and forced to say the least, this must be the area he need more growth at. He has made Scola look light years ahead of him and I dare say this is the only reason he is not ready to dethrone Scola yet.
Have to disagree with some things here. "Fire sale" means, Hey, Cleveland with your huge TE, here's Scola; nah, a late first rounder is fine, any time between now and 2015. Morey won't make a move until Melo is dealt (i.e., we ain't gettin' him) and not until the approach of the deadline forces another GM's hand. The problem with all this is, The players know they're walking across a mine field. Who dies? And who'll wind up in purgatory or one of the 9 circles of hell (i.e., Sacramento, Cleveland, Minneapolis, Memphis)? Having this prolonged trade deadline season is a huge distraction for these guys. The ones who know they're going to be here seem to have no problem (Lowry, Martin). Others? Their play comes and goes. (Just like their playing time.)
Trade martin trade scola take this team to the ground for a couple years and hope you can find the next griffin or rose.
I think a huge problem is Scola's game is fundamentally flawed. That last play was a prime example. He would rather shoot a little jumpshot than go at the basket strong. He would rather dance his way to a layup while trying to draw a foul instead of making sure he gets the 2 points. I don't know if this is a fundamental flaw in International basketball vs American basketball, but in the states you're taught to always take it to the hoop strong. Examples like that last play are the reasons why games are won and lost. I'm all for trading Scola because that last play will happen again and again if Scola has the ball. When Landry was here, Scola barely sniffed the 4th quarter. PPat is proving to be a very solid player. I'm ready to hand to reigns to him.
Exactly. The team has no size to speak of, no one to erase the horrific defensive deficiencies of Martin and Scola. Other team's bigs often have career games against the Rockets. (This doesn't excuse our players' laziness once they get the lead, however.)
Even if the Rockets wanted to trade him it will be hard to do with his age and Kelvin Cato like contract
