Woke up about 4 hours ago and went shopping 3 hours ago... I had forgotten what good weather felt like. Sunny and in the 50's-60's, now climbing into the 70's.
Our little window of opportunity for rain has ended. Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Houston/Galveston Texas

that bastrop fire looks apocalyptic. i heard yesterday that 300 homes were already destroyed - that number might be double today. and its really covering a massive area - from b/t bastrop and smithville all the way out to 71 and 21. circle d off of 21 and the colony both got hit hard and they are probably 15 miles apart. steiner ranch, cedar park, p-ville and bastrop - each of these fires would be a huge story on its own, but to have all 4 of them in one day is just bizarre. i know its been hot and dry and yesterday was really windy and dumbasses are still tossing cigs out car windows, but what is the possibility that these were arson?
Massive fire just broke out within a few miles from where I live in Magnolia. ****ting bricks right now. If anyone lives NW of Houston, you can probably see the smoke. Picture from my driveway:
weatherman was like, yeah, they thought they would get relief from storm, no rain, to add insult to injury they got wind. incredible
jesus... this is getting out of control. with no rain in sight and a "cold" front bringing nothing but dry air and wind this has serious potential to get real bad. vibes to all effected.
Fires everywhere around Austin, and now one in Leander west of 183. Getting a little out of control up in these parts.
Those fire videos are chilling. I drove down to Lake Texana State Park (about 30 miles north of Victoria) yesterday as I'd been wondering how it had been effected by the droughts. In high school and college I would camp there at least a couple of times a year, so it's somewhat of a barometer for me. Rangers there were estimating that the lake was at 50% normal capacity. I was fairly shocked by what I found. Unusable boat ramp: Land locked fishing pier: This article from a while back in the Chronicle on Lake Meredith being dry in places where it used to be 50 feet deep is pretty telling as well: http://blog.chron.com/shannontompkins/2011/06/memories-of-drought-past-and-present/
Yeah, I was driving home, and I was looking at the sky. I live near northwest. I was wondering why the sky was looking purple-ish. I see why now.
