https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...e-of-the-best-off-schedule-throwers-ive-seen/ "I think he has a lot of Patrick Mahomes style to him, and by that I mean he is one of the best off-schedule throwers that I've seen coming out of the collegiate game," Spielman said. "He does a great job for a small quarterback with his vision down the field. His anticipation and the way he throws the ball and he throws receivers open." "Now, if this guy was 6-1, 210 pounds, he's a generational type quarterback, in my opinion," Spielman said. "But since he's so small, everybody's going to be nervous as heck to take him, because one, is he going to be durable enough to go through a preseason, go through 17 games, go through -- if they get all the way to the Super Bowl -- that many games and stay healthy? So that's a big concern I think with a lot of teams."
The takes here are so wild. If dude was 6', we'd be burning the house down in order to draft him potentially even at 1. But at 5'10 that's just too small. If you watch film of Bryce Young, and saw how well he performed week in and week out against some of the best defenses in the league, there's no way you'd come away from that thinking "He's balling and won the Heisman....but I think he's too short". He's got generational talent and pocket mobility. His only major knock is height. I'm in. With Demeco's Alabama connections, if he comes to the conclusion through the vetting process, that Bryce isn't worth it, then I'm good with it. But otherwise, let's go. BY for the win
Amen. That's why I started joking that he needs to take a year off and have leg lengthening surgery. If he grew 3 inches, hed be the best QB prospect since Luck.
The irony on how he'd be perceived if he was 3 inches taller, is that no one would be able to thoroughly explain why he'd be viewed so highly. They just know he'd "look better".
this is a stupid take. The analysts clearly explain the concern about Young’s size in all of the ones above you. The fear is that he is too small in stature to hold up. If he were taller with a bigger frame you’d be less concerned. Duh
HeelGate 2023 -- my bigger concern is whether he will even weigh 200 pounds at the combine. "SEC guys are just as big as the NFL guys" -- true. When you factor in an additional 5 regular season games in the NFL and hopefully playoffs those durability concerns are valid no need for anyone to excuse them away.
Sure wouldn’t that be the same for every rookie coming in? Levis battled multiple injuries throughout the season but you don’t hear that much about durability concerns, even with the added games.
His frame is the concern for me, not his actual height. I believe his skills are special and he can overcome the height. I'm less convinced his body could hold up. But I'd still gamble on him if he's there for us to pick.
