Quinn was on my wish list during that 2011 draft and a was hoping they wouldn't regret passing on him. Obviously they dont', but he's a heck of a player. I wonder how much hype he would have received had he actually been able to play his junior year.
Quinn was considered the unpolished workout warrior that year IIRC. He has produced well for the Rams.
I added in he was considered "unpolished" because he was only a sophmore coming out. If we got guaranteed Quinn production out of Clowney, I'd take that in a heartbeat as a #1 overall. Officially casting my lot with Jadeveon now. Godspeed.
But Quinn is playing in a 4-3 as a DE and the Texans are going to try to convert Clowney to a LB in a 3-4 (if they draft him) _ big difference because Clowney will have much more to learn than Quinn.
Which is why i think we should go for a QB at #1. We can get close to Clowney production in the second.
It's a long way to the draft, so it's had to take anything as gospel yet. Putting Clowney's hand in the dirt, at least some of the time, in a 3-4, doesn't seem out of the question. Either way, athletic freak is freaky.
It isn't out of the question, not with his speed. And if Crennel is gonna walk the walk, we'll be in nickle or some form of a 4-man front quite often.
True. That's what's been going on with Merciless isn't it...? And it's still taking him time to learn. Some players can do it immediately and with some it takes time. Remember Babin..?? He sucked when the Texans tried to make him stand up but had some pretty good years when he went to other teams that didn't try to make him stand up (I think that was Babin). Look at Aldon Smith in San Francisco. They were able to use him in situations and he wasn't required to be an every down player. San Francisco could afford to do that because their defense was stacked already. The Texans aren't in that situation. But I agree, Clowney is a freakish athlete.... BUT, how many freakish athletes did Romeo have in his LB core when New England was winning championships...??? He had a bunch of smart guys with desire. The 3-4 defense is more about the 3 guys on the D-line, the middle LB, and the safety position more so than it is about the OLB in the corners. If you have 3 defensive lineman who each require a double team that makes it easier for the OLB because there's only 5 offensive lineman. In Romeo's 3-4 defense I believe the Texans would get more value out of Trent Murphy in the 2nd or 3rd round than they would with Clowney with the #1 overall pick. And Marcus Smith out of Louisville is a beast as well.
Robert Quinn has a lot better ability to bend around a tackle than Clowney, more agility. However Clowney has a much more explosive first step than Quinn, or anyone else for that matter, coming out of college.
Same. Not only are Quinn & Clowney's combine numbers so similar, their college production was also. Quinn: Fresh - 34 tackles, 6.5 TFL, 2 sacks; Soph - 52 tackles, 19 TFL, 11 sacks; Jun - 0, Ineligible Clowney: Fresh - 36 tackles, 12 TFL, 8 sacks; Soph - 50 tackles, 21.5 TFL, 13 sacks; Jun - 40 tackles, 11.5 TFL, 3 sacks He fell as far as he did, because people put too much weight in a down year from a blue chip player. It it didn't burn us in 2011, but in 2012 when I was hoping they would grab Alshon Jeffrey Rick Smith continued to ignore the WR2. Jeffrey was yet another player who dropped further than he should have, because of a down year following an All-American year.
Not really. Quinn just has a shorter, more compact build, with a lower center of gravity. He simply doesn't need to bend his hips as much to get around a block on the corner.
Didn't Quinn play at North Carolina...? How many other guys were on his defense that were drafted in the 1st 3 rounds...??? Because Clowney's production dropped after a couple of guys were drafted on his defense.
lol, i don't think you understand what 'bending around the edge' entails... Robert Quinn is very flexible/bendy. Him and clowney are a very different brand of pass rusher.
The 2010 Tar Heels were expected to contend for a BCS Bowl game. They had gone 8-5 the 3 years prior, and they still went 9-4 in 2010 despite losing 13 players to NCAA sanctions. They also had more players invited to the combine than any other team that year. Quinton Coples was a 1st round pick from that defense. Marvin Austin, Zach Brown, and Bruce Carter were all 2nd rounders. Da'Norris Searcy went in the 4th, but even without him that's 5 1st & 2nd round picks on the same front 7. They were loaded.
You don't think I understanding what bending around the edge entails, and I don't think you understand much of anything. Go back to blathering about Teddy the way Uncle Rico does about the 80's, and I'll go back to talking football with the normal people here.
Cant get much more serious than giving up on your college team to protect yourself for professional football.
