Last year's was bad... The top two picks in that draft may would have landed outside the top 7-10 in this year's draft. I think it's a good draft that is bad to have the #1 pick in and #1 picks usually don't live up to the hype anyway. I'm more concerned with what they do with the rest of their picks.
You know there's 6 more rounds right? All I hear is how deep this class is, don't know what you're talking about.
What years besides 2012 have been so great? There were even serious questions about whether Cam Newton should've been the #1 pick in 2011. This draft is light years better than last year's.
Since it is seeming unlikely we take Manziel, I'm hoping for a trade down. Would like Clevelands spot or possibly Atlanta's. Not sure who else might want to trade up and what they could give.
Lol.. I just said the same thing yesterday... Josh, Sammy, and Jordan would terrorize defenses. I feel Sammy is the true #1 pick in this draft... It's a passing league and if you can't get a quarterback than get a #1 WR that can help on offense and special teams. Waaaayyyy more of in impact than Clowney.
So this is a big issue...everyone expects the Texans to draft a QB, but if that doesnt happen...how will the QB situation shake up I can see the Jags draft Teddy, and if the Browns do draft Watkins(great pick up), is it really possible that a pretty good QB prospect may drop to the 2nd or 3rd rounds... 1. Texans - Clowney 2. St Louis -trades down or selects Mack 3. Jags - select Bridgewater 4. Browns - select Watkins 5. Raiders - select Manziel 6. Falcons - select Mack/ or Greg Robinson 7. Tampa Bay - selects Barr 8. Vikings - select Bortles 9. Bills - select Matthews 10. Lions - select Denard
That's a tricky question because I think he got bad news at the combine when they did the medical checks but he's by far the most talented NT in the draft so I'd at least consider it. I could see picking Nix and pushing the QB decision back to the 3rd round, but it would be risky.
With Johnson and Hopkins our WR situation is fine, but I do agree that there are 1 WR prospects better than any QB prospect in this draft, but not as good as the 3 top defensive prospects.
No terrible player is "marketable" if they were going that route, they'd have just piked up Tebow. It might boost the pre-season hype, but once he showed that he's not an NFL quality QB, it would be over pretty quickly.
Those three guys could carry Brian Hoyer and he's not garbage. And if you watched the Super Bowl and see the effect Percy Harvin had on the field _ he was a game changer without touching the ball. #1 receivers are the second hardest position to find behind quarterbacks. Look how long the Texans to find a #2 receiver. And I would have no problem with getting him and searching for a quarterback later IF the Texans don't see a quarterback that they love in this draft.
And no one should know that better than Texans' fans. With Hopkins and Dre, I don't think anyone expects them to burn a first round pick on a WR. No one watching them go 2-14 thought they were losing because they didn't have quality receivers. Clowney with the number one pick or trade down for Johnny, Teddy, or Blake, isn't that looking like a strong possibility?
That seems to be what the consensus is. 'Course, that would only be possible if the Texans are able to make a trade with CLE and get the two #1's. Which would then seem only possible if CLE only wanted either Clowney or Bridgewater, otherwise they can sit at their spot. And while we could trade with ATL, the value we would get back would be less (this year's 1, a later round pick, and possibly next year's #1 which won't be very high). Dropping any further down and you likely won't get Bridgewater/Manziel/Bortles. And you won't have gotten either Clowney/Mack/Barr. So you would have wasted the horrible season's draft result IMO. If you end up not drafting a QB with a high #1, I don't see much point of drafting a QB with 2-1, since I don't see much difference between those you would draft at 2 or at 3. At that point you are stop-gapping with a FA QB signing or sticking with Chase.
If the Texans are not sold on Clowney for whatever reason they may be able to get a worthwhile offer from the Falcons. Possibly their 1st, 2nd and next yr's 2nd. This would allow them to still draft to fill a specific need like Matthews or Mack or get Bortles if O'Brien believes that's his guy.
