They sure would... But they would be excited about drafting a DE who only had 3 sacks with the #1 pick. But just about every "expert" out there says Blake will be the best QB out this draft but Texans fans aren't trying to hear that. Go figure. Warren Moon even says Blake has the most upside but what does he know.
A 6-5 300 lb dude who had a 77 yard fumble return for a TD and a DIVING interception and scored a TD... JJ Watt 2.0
Carr anyone?

Just landed in the old stopping grounds of Houston, Texas! @Jesse17Cummins #yall
— Derek Carr (@derekcarrqb) April 9, 2014

Lost respect for McArron and apparently so did Rich Gannon:

Former NFL MVP Rich Gannon on Sirius about @10AJMcCarron doing a reality show with Katherine Webb: "A bad idea. I think people tend to be sleeping on the need for an NT and a DE because they don't tend to record big stats in a 3-4. IMO those positions are extremely important, and it is difficult to find people who can do what Crenell will ask. In my mind, 2 of the first 4 picks would be allocated to locating the 2 defensive lineman. You can get a nickle back or a developmental offensive lineman much more easily in the mid rounds than you can a big, athletic defensive lineman.
If they can fix the two positions on the line next to J.J. (as in two other players that need to be doubled) _ that would make Mercilus's life a lot easier because he'll be practically unblocked. That will also free up J.J. because they won't be able to triple team him and won't be able to double team him as much. The D-line, safety, DB, ILB positions need more attention than the OLB spot... IMO.
I think Texans should focus heavily on defense on at least the first two picks. Adding two high picks on D-Line will tremendously improve this team. Pick clowney and pick up hageman at 2.1 than pick up Murray or mett later. And hope the rest of the way you can find a quality player for your other holes. Can't fix every thing in one draft, but it'll get us started
Sorta like what the experts do when they clamor about Clowney only having three sacks in his final season???
The one negative thing about the rookie wage scale is the fact that we'll have to wait til draft day before the #1 team makes their choice. It was kind of cool when teams would sign guys days before the draft, thus creating new discussion material and changing the draft dynamic.
LOL Phil Simms on Andrew Luck: "I don't care what anybody says. I've watched a lot of him. He never takes it and rips it in there. And you can say what you want but, man, you’ve got to be able to crease that ball every once in a while," Simms said. "There's not a lot of rotation on the ball and there’s not a tremendous amount of power. Not that you need to have that power arm. I’m not saying you’ve got to have that exclusively but, man, it sure helps when you can do that because there’s four or five plays a game it is about arm strength." http://www.stampedeblue.com/2012/4/...e-a-big-middle-finger-to-phil-simms-nfl-draft Take all this noise with huge, enormous, gigantic grains of salt.
I hated that. 2006 would've been so awesome if the first time we heard about Mario Williams being the pick was when Tagliabue announced his name.
Exactly. There were all kinds of "experts" talking about that early on before any of them did their homework and actually watched the tape, Now that most people have had a chance to study the film, you only hear that "3 sacks" BS from the most disreputable of "experts".

Clowney may end up being an absolute beast. Would not surprise me, and I sure hope he is one if the Texans draft him. But my guess would be there's never been a pass rusher taken with the first pick in the draft whose last college season involved him recording only 3 sacks.
