I have been unavailable for about a week. Thanks to you guys for the many responses to my initial premise, which, I suppose, is stating the obvious. It is just that watching the playoffs has made it more obvious. The Rockets offseason moves this year are perhaps the most critical ever. They must strike gold. The huge talent gap must be at least partially closed. Otherwise, going deep in the playoffs is only a pipe dream, and no amount of PR, hype, and hoopla will change that cold, hard fact.
The Cavs looks like they got most of the guys who were to some extent talked up here as possible Rockets: Damon Jones Larry Hughes Donyell Marshall Flip Murray Eric Snow Ira Newble
Interesting observation! The right combination of superstars and supporting cast, if it jells, can prove successful. They are living proof. Who would have predicted three straight wins against the Pistons. Amazing.
that's a really good post, jumpman in the thread about the pistons/cavs series pointed out that the team is not lacking in talent something I whole heartedly agree with. marshall and gooden are probably better than any power foward on the rockets roster, and z is a good center. hughes is good shooting guard and a good compliment to lebron. flip is just a good change of pace guy, snow is a solid pg, and damon is a great shooter. that's a good roster.

I almost cried watching this haha
Oh yeah, add Gooden to the list. There was a good bit of talk here about acquiring him when he was in his bouncing-around phase. I think I even saw Lamond Murray playing for the Pistons; he was a name that was brought up but didn't fly long because he was thought to be washed up.
The big question is whether or not this organization can make the right decisions on personnel to start digging this team out of the talent hole in which they find themselves now mired. Past history would say no and it's important to note that we will be expecting the same folks who got us into this mess to be the ones to get us out. This does not fill me with much optimism for the future.
well, I almost cried too.. the thing is too impressive for me... do u have an idea where to download this from ?? thanks!
Here's a download of that Dream mix. It's a bit large - 87.5 MB. http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=949DA236400DFECB
Ditto. Also, in watching the clip I had forgotten how much better the uniforms fit the players as opposed to the all baggy look of today.
I wouldn't go as far as saying the worst, but I do see where your coming from... I'm afraid that the combination of Yao and Tracy will not be sufficient for this upcoming season... maybe for the regular season but our weakness, IMO, is our bench. The top teams has crazy depth... I'm hoping the draft will continue our progress... What I mean by that is... We finally have a core that has played with each other and traveled etc etc... Now we just add 2-3 players and then we begin our run at a solid 4-5 year attempt at a Championship. I'm hoping watching Kobe and LeBron in the playoffs will change Tracy's mentality and approach to the rest of his career.
Players today can't soar like Dr. J because, if they do get airborne like Dr. J, their baggy uniforms open like parachutes and they just drift away. But baggy is better for people like me who just watch and lay on the couch like a potato.
Isn't Michael Jordan to blame for all of this? I see the present uniforms as most un athletic and certainly unatractive and distract the fans from observing the true motion and form of the players. When I see the clips, of the period before the street took over America, I long for Basketball to return to its more athletic looking past.
Agree!!!! Players like Charles Barkley championed the baggy style to keep from looking so fat. Sadly, a lot of fans also have found the baggy replica wear easier to get into so this "look" will be hard to replace.
Why can't the Rockets find a Diaw or a Devin Harris? All they can seem to find is old Knicks who suck up money and contribute little. I wonder if Les hired Morey for this very reason, to stop JVG's New York pipline and apply some accountablity/objective measures to personnal acquistions? The "good ole boy" network is getting the Rockets nowhere. Hopefully, things will change and the talent gap will begin to close. The Rocket's draft selection will tell fans more than the PR spin machine which is already in motion.
Harris was a #5 pick. The rox have a top 10 pick this year to see what they can do. And not everyone is going to find a Diaw in the later rounds. It's pretty much a crapshoot in seeing how a player's skills and talents translate to the pro game. I'm more impressed with the Clippers ability to pick up guys off the street that turn into valuable contributers (i.e. Quinton Ross, and Bobby Simmons).
