Did they change members? That doesn't sound like Casablancas and minus the guitar solo I wouldn't have guessed this was a Strokes song in a blind listen. Still an automatic pickup for me though.
lol, no they didn't change any members. Julian just doesn't have the filter on his vocals anymore. They moved away from that on the last album. They gave away the single yesterday via download. I don't know if they are still doing it though.
I don't listen to them that much, but i liked this song a lot. may have to give them a shot. of course, it sounds like they might have sounded a bit different in some of their earlier albums?
You should really give their first album a chance, it's solid from beginning to end. It's one of favorites. I'm liking the new single.
I guess they must be Tom Petty fans. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/f1vvUec71v8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/akiBVlrRvEQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Might as well suggest Room on Fire too since it's very similar. It's just with this new single, the vocals (outside of not having the processing sound anymore) sound so recessed compared to the rest of the band.
Yeah, the beginning, that's the hook, the part of the song that sets the tone and pulls you in, the most important part.
this argument is so 2004. strokes admitted a long time ago they jacked the opening groove. big deal, happens all the time.

I've been looking forward to this album, finally, took them long enough. I was kinda hoping for a return to their "Is This It" sound, doesn't look like that's going to happen. Just based upon the two songs, I've heard on Angles, sounds like they could have been on Julian's solo Album "Phrazes for the Young." Guess we see who was running stuff in the studio.....jk. I still like what I hear.
Yeah I heard 30 second samples of all the songs already, definitely hearing the 'Phrazes' type new wave sound from it. Hopefully their will be some garage rock elements throughout. From what I gathered from various interviews, the songwriting was rocky and arduous. Initially Julian recorded the vocals separately on top of the music sent from the band and vice versa, all of these sessions were scrapped and they had to start over again.
I keep loving what I hear, so far. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/A0Fz4eBmve0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
