When you get yourself into MAGA land and listen to them talk about this stuff, it's obvious that over the past 20 years they've had their minds completely brainwashed to believe that: A. We are a Republic... NOT a Democracy Which is not true, and their idea of what a Republic is, can be whatever they want it to be ALA later Roman/Caesar era where it was a Dictatorship..... you know... the era in which the Bible in the book of Revelations John writes an entire book warning about the evils of the Nero Roman empire and it's persecution of people using God's name in vain to do it. B. We are actually founded on Christianity, and we should "return" to a Theocracy Which also is not true. This believe spreads like wildfire in the evangelical church, and is based on Eisenhower putting "In God We Trust" on our currency which was done to send an anti Communist message IN 1955 and had NOTHING to do with our framers beliefs. Many Evangelicals have no idea that this statement on our currency was not put there by the framers. While there were some framers who were devout Christians, they actually were the ones who fought the hardest to have Separation of Church and state be enshrines in the Constitution because they though it would PROTECT religion from being corrupted by politicians. .... So this all boils down to in their minds truly believing that they are right that "returning" to a Theocratic Dictatorship is actually fundamentally American... which it is not by any stretch. What on earth do you do with people who believe they are right when they are so damn wrong?? I have no idea.

basso, around the world, and others whose names escape me at the moment don’t want to admit that the Republican way is to destroy democratic institutions, because to admit that is to concede they are on the wrong side of history. So we get a ton of cute, trite statements like no, you guys are being dramatic, or no, that would never happen, or some other limp excuse making. The reality is that there are a ton of people who would gladly tear it all down because democratic institutions aren’t worth keeping to them if they are no longer in control. If Christian white men can’t control the country, then burn it down. That’s what it boils down to for those people.
The guy that had no problem with child marriage in his newsletter is now reporting that a right wing professor is describing what unnamed Democrats house members will do... but when you read the op-ed it fails to quote any Democrat saying they won't certify (in fact, quite the opposite, a few says they will follow the law).
