The Sad, Desolate Scenes of CPAC 2023 At the most famous annual gathering of America's conservatives, the chairs are empty, the energy is low—and everyone seems a little bit defensive about it. https://newrepublic.com/article/170959/cpac-2023-bannon-trump-desantis
Asian Americans, Shifting Right The new politics of class in America. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/06/briefing/asian-americans-conservative-republican.html excerpt: Beyond individual policy issues, working-class voters tend to have a different worldview than much of the modern Democratic Party. They are often more religious and more patriotic. In a Times poll last year, only 26 percent of Democratic voters with a bachelor’s degree described the U.S. as the greatest country in the world; more than half of voters without a bachelor’s degree gave that answer. The Republican Party obviously has its own problems with swing voters, including Asian Americans. Donald Trump has promoted white nationalism, and his descriptions of Covid fed anti-Asian racism. The Republican Party favors abortion bans, while most voters favor significant access to abortion. Many Republican politicians also oppose popular economic policies, like caps on medical costs. Given the radicalism of today’s Republican Party, liberals had hoped that Asian and Latino voters would help usher in an era of Democratic dominance. And maybe that will happen one day. But it is not happening yet. Instead, Democrats’ struggles with Latino and Asian voters have helped Republicans solidify their hold on states where Democrats had hoped to start winning by now, like Texas, Florida and North Carolina. To a growing number of working-class voters, the Democratic Party looks even more flawed than the alternative. more at the link
https://thehill.com/homenews/state-...s-divorced-lgbtq-couples-from-getting-relief/ Texas property tax bill excludes divorced, LGBTQ couples from getting relief Y’all be sure and stay in loveless, abusive, contracts and pop out as many kids as possible to maximize that tax benefit now! And if you’re gay just go be a Democrat.
There is so much about this bill I find hard to wrap my head around. What if a woman left her husband because he became abusive to her and her children? What if a spouse starts doing or dealing drugs, is part of a gang, starts criminal activity, or puts them in danger? How can someone who divorces for reasons like that be denied tax help if they own a home or remarry? That's sick! Who is to judge people by saying only married heterosexuals deserve tax credit for raising children. There are plenty of horrible church going straight couples who lead a completely different life behind closed doors. That includes physical, psychological, and sexual abuse, and as well as adultery and criminal activity. The GOP needs to keep the Bible or their version of it out of politics when making laws!
Imagine the headlines if a Dem proposed a bill for LGBTQ families only? With so many more babies available for adoption with the anti abortion laws we should be incentivizing LGBTQ couples to add to their abnormal families after all.
Imagine? Now that you've typed it, it could be the lead story on FoxNews tomorrow! Fairly bullocks(TM), after all.
I’m waiting on these crazy ass GOP bills to be contested all the way to the Supreme Court and we’ll see if they stand for the constitution or just rubber stamp said far right legislation.
It's not illegal to discriminate on the basis of LGBTQ status. Dems tried to pass equity act last congress but senate Republicans blocked it.
We should just treat everyone the same under the law. No special perks for being a heterosexual married couple. No special perks for being married at all, or for being single. No special perks for having kids or not having kids. No special perks for being straight or gay or bi or pan or trans or white or black or Tahitian or male or female or young or old or tall or short or skinny or fat. Laws need make no reference to any attribute of the person to whom they apply.
No it wouldn't be legal. If it passes, signed by Abbott and enacted there would immediately be lawsuits filed. Why is the state GOP fine with spending our tax dollars on fighting lawsuits?
They love wasting our tax dollars on things that don't help anyone. It's all about pushing their White Christian Nationalism beliefs into law.
