GOP is definitely compromised by Russian influence. We've seen numerous politicians with pro-Russian stances.
Don't think he understood what he was saying to be honest. What he is basically saying is the Supreme Court shouldn't exist. It should have no power because the states should decide on every issue. Which is pretty bad still.
LOL, a man who doesn't even know what he is saying to a woman he questions as worthy of the position. Oh, but she's a black woman, so good old Border Ted thinks he's smarter.
That was Mike Braun talking to a male reporter about the role of the Supreme Court in Roe v Wade. He was arguing that the states should decide that, and then the reporter hit him with, "what about this case about the case about interracial marriage?", and he said yeah because you have to be consistent. The media took that to mean he was against interracial marriage. I do think that was a mischaracterization of what he actually said.
Face it, Ted's a pompous as*hole. He also asked her this in regards to gender identity. “Tell me, does that same principle apply to other protected characteristics? For example, I am a Hispanic man. Could I decided I was an Asian man and challenge Harvard’s discrimination because of that decision?”
Not necessarily compromised. Their views happen to align. We've seen that many Republicans leaders don't believe in democracy, freedom of religion and the bill of rights.
An interracial marriage ban would clearly be unconstitutional. So he is basically arguing states rights should trump the constitution - specifically the bill of rights. Why would he say this? I can only imagine its because he wants states to be unmoored from basic human rights. So its not really taken out of context. He is arguing states should be able to enact racist laws.
I think the context was on a different issue and the reporter hit him with that example and he didn't realize what the actual meaning of what he was saying is. What he, and many other Republicans fail to grasp is that it's not the state's role to enforce the US constitution, but rather the state's constitution. A state can not rule a federal law unconstitutional - they don't have that power. The federal courts only have that power. Now what he actually wants is for the Supreme Court to simply respect whatever state laws come about and not interfere even if they are unconstitutional.
How the hell is she still a thing? And she had the nerve to call somebody else stupid. Keep getting them checks, always be grifting.
He is a US Senator, was an Indiana State rep, and a Harvard business grad. You think he doesn't understand high school level civics? I'm guessing he knows what he's saying and is just an a-hole.
It's not his job to put her on a hook, he did what he was supposed to do and let her look totally stupid while being professional. He was more effective this way than trying to be more confrontational. Yummy indeed. These are the numbers I wanted to see, the republicans cannot stop shooting themselves in the foot, they have no party loyalty anymore and are just out for what they can get, thereby carrying Putin's water. The adds just write themselves.
Views? None of those republicans care about anything but money fame and perceived power if they had actual principles on the subject I would respect them more, but they are just cashing in.
The Senator Mike Braun questioning is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. It's not the reporters job to put them on a hook. But you don't let them off when they say or do stupid, intolerant things. Braun said something stupid, then the reporter asked the same question in 3 different ways to make sure he meant what he said. He almost said are you sure? Even racists laws should be left to the states? And Braun doubled down. At no time was the reporter confrontational, mean, or derisive. He just gave the Braun the rope to hang himself.
That's not Uncle Thomas' wife is it? IF it is it just shows what a joke our entire justice system is. #PackTheCourt
