Mcaullife absolutely sucks and Youngkin has no political background so he's not weighed down.

That being said, Virginia has a habit of flipping against a sitting President.

I'm just happy we got mass transit funding, legal weed, and the end of the death penalty out of Northam.

Ciatarelli leads but NBC is doing some fancy math with the mail ins so Murphy is ahead.

Fun side note. I live in Virginia and this campaign was a totally bizzare affair. The democrats/mcaullife campaign was sending out *very* official looking Youngkin ads with Trumps endorsement all over it. It was a dead ringer for a republican sponsored ad, but in the super fine print sure enough it was from his opponent. I've never seen such a thing in 30 years of following politics. Spending money to advertise *for* your opponent as legitimately as possible...

As for Youngkin, he ran one ad and one ad only and it was just a 2 second clip of mcaullife saying something about how parents shouldn't tell schools what to teach. That's it. That was his whole campaign.

Statewide races are so often the whim of national winds. This is no different. Same pattern, different day.

Yeah and exit polling shows that suburban white non college women were the swing voters who went hard for Padagonia guy. It was a smart albeit racist campaign because it tugged on the heartstrings and insecurities of the voters that he needed to flip without the Trump Meinkampf brashness.

Dem messaging needs to get back to the basic messaging and I think they need to run on healthcare or something similar in 22. They need to get past this reconciliation bill and Manchin sh$t show as soon as possible so they can basically rebrand themselves.

BBB has measure to drastically expand Medicare.

However nobody knows it because BBB is a mess and they miscalculated from the start how much Manchin and Sinema would try to blow it up. They can’t ditch it now though but they can wrap it up in the next week and move on in a hard way.

Medicare expansion isn’t too exciting for all the 18-50 year olds. How about something for us?

Happy to help others but I rarely, if ever, hear anything that would directly impact and benefit large segments of the population, including me.

I'm actually all for it. Run someone else. You may not agree with this, but I think people underestimate just how big an impact the Afghanistan fiasco had here at home. Biden went from 50%+ to under water starting immediately after the stunning takeover by the Taliban, who are exactly the same Taliban who were running a large part of the country like a medieval fiefdom prior to the NATO invasion. That was grossly mishandled.

There is a generation of young Afghan women who are wondering what in the hell happened to them. We still have 30,000 of our people in South Korea after 70 years and they have helped maintain stability on the peninsula. We could have kept 5,000 in Afghanistan and the enormous air base at Bagram, propping up the dysfunctional government, with the help of our allies (who were astounded by what happened), and remained for several more years, if necessary. There was no need to abruptly pull out. The Chinese are doing cartwheels.

Well HTM.. that’s why I’m saying they need to make it an issue. As a party they have the edge since they believe mostly healthcare is a right and the Republicans want to Repeal and go F yourself.

But yes if they pivot to a healthcare focus they need to drive a policy driven agenda that has mass appeal.

Again though…you missed my point about “pulling on the heartstrings of swing voters.” What that issue is I don’t know. They can’t just create racist lies like Republicans feel comfortable doing 8 days a week.

The facts are there though why the vest guy won. Suburban white uneducated women and CRT racist messaging. For whatever reason that messaging tugged on the emotions of a significant piece of the electorate.

I think it would be smart to allow an “outsider” to run instead of Biden. It seems knee jerk to the extreme but I think people have just underestimated three things:

    -How bad Trump is/was
-How ignorant and cynical the American electorate has become
-How incredibly pervasive right wing messaging impacts the American psyche

I think Biden isn’t really to blame necessarily because very little of this is in his control. However it’s becoming more and more clear every day that passes by how much a person like Biden is setup to fail as President in the 2020’s. With this electorate you need an entertainer to win as a Democrat while as a Republican all you have to do is not be Hitlers bro mate.

The cards are truly stacked against Democrats in so many way. As much as I criticized Yang the past two weeks and will continue to do so… the spirit of what he’s trying to do is totally in sync with the reality of the situation.

This is simply not true. She was not in the last area where the SENATORS OF THE UNITED STATES were. She was in an empty hallway. You can see it on video. She was in what is called the Speakers lobby, which is outside of the House chamber. Which is on the other side of the Capitol from where the SENATORS OF THE UNITED STATES were.

Babbit was over near the 1 (or the 3, not exactly clear, but at one end of that hall). The SOTUS were over in the big room labeled Senate Chamber.
Do you understand the difference between intentionally using deadly force and someone dying while you are trying to restrain them? Obviously if Chauvin has shot George Floyd, no one would have argued anything about that case. That wasn't the case.
    You sound like an idiot.

Biden didn't win in 2020 as much as Trump was just fired. Now it's Biden that is about to be fired in 2024. I just hope that it's not Trump that reaps the benefit of that.

If the democrats don't stop pandering to the far left, they are going to lose it all. And the far left needs to tone it down some to help their party.

Had she and the other rioters enteredr the window they were attempting to breach despite warnings they would have been just to the left of the room where the senators were. She would have been simply a few yards away. The senators and staff members had not had time to even barricade their location. They were outside of it, just minutes before.

She was encouraging others to follow her in storming through the barricade. The shooting has been deemed justifiable as he was saving lives.

Liberals went too far left, particularly on education and race. They paid the price last night and will pay a far steeper price next November.

In a way this could be healthy for Democrats, if they learn their lesson and course correct to more centrist positions. But knowing most liberals, in their feeble minds they actually believe themselves to be life-saving heroes by adopting their policy positions. Their self awareness is also extremely poor. Chances are they won't change a bit. Great news for Republicans next year!
