Not to destroy a tortured anagram, but Finnerty has two N's, according to HBO. http://www.hbo.com/sopranos/episode/season6/episode67.shtml
Nice episode tonight. ****Spoiler***** Pauly Walnuts' mamma confession was brilliant. He's still a b*stard though. Preview at the end makes it look like there will be some serious wacking this season.
Paulie can't go behind Tony's back like that and get away with it. Tony is already in a surly mood as it is...
Today felt like a season 4 filler episode. They should have hilated everything in 2 minutes. I am dissapointed
I was less than enthralled with the episode also. I like Paulie, but only in small doses. I really couldn't give a crap about his biological mother situation. And that one bit where the TV got thrown out the window and the lady wheeling past it without a reaction felt kind of sitcomish. I liked Tony and John/Phil jockeying for position, but the born again pastor and Bobby shoots rapper story-lines were just "meh". I mean the rapper shooting could have been funny in theory, but to have it end with the guy getting shot in the butt.... it just didn't seem well executed and didn't do anything for me. Eh. Well they can't all be winners. And regarding Paulie, as funny as he can be, he's still a major tool who I wouldn't mind getting bumped off.
I liked the episode. I think it's just setting things up for future shows by letting us see the changes starting to occur in Tony. Him letting the paramedic guy off was good I though.
To me the Sopranos has always been dark comedy exposing the foibles common to all human beings using absurd characters and situations, so this episode to me was a masterpiece. Think about it, Tony contempleting the nature of existance with a Bell Labs rocket scientist and rapper Da Lux in the same room, tough as nails Paulie Walnuts crying because he didn't know who his mamma was and then tranfering his rage to the kid whose real momma was willing to sacrifice herself for him. Everyone wonders 'why' but to put it in the context of the most visceral, dangerous group of people you can imagine dramatizes the evolution of thought required for civilization and self actualization. If Tony can ever find redemption there is hope for us all.
^Ok, I dont know how to follow that one up.. nice post Dubious... I liked the episode more than last weeks and it's not even close in my book.. I loved the exchanges during the boxing match and how you could see Tony’s mind going back and forth over religion and what the minister was telling him.. I thought the "ban on Viagra" was funny too..
Vito is either on the run, or dead somewhere. It's either that or to wack those two guys. Those are his only options. Great episode. This is the mix of intense human drama wrapped up in raw animal violence and testosterone that I've grown to know and love from this series.
GREAT Episode! Vito....either he whacked himself or he is going to try to whack the two guys who saw him all leathered-up. Or will he try to whack the two guys and end up getting whacked himself? Great story line...ever since he came on to Finn I had wondered how it would play out, and we are about to find out. Tony...showing who the boss is by roughing up the bodyguard. Was that blood he was puking at the end of the episode? Is that a literary thing...violence now makes Tony sick? When he hires the guys from Naples to whack the "little guy", I wonder how sick that will make him, especially with Christopher voicing opposition (and showing disrespect). Uncle Junior....goes to the minimum security psycho ward. Is his Alzheimers a ruse? Will he try to escape from the psycho ward? Johnny Sack...getting led away like that at his daughter's wedding would make anyone go beserk. Let's see how it plays out in regards to his trial. Phil Leotardo....will he try to take over permanently now that he has seen Johnny Sack's "weakness"?
Agreed...Freaking Vito...why didn't he just go after those two guys and kill them to keep his secret? Anywho, I still can't get use to seeing Vinnie from DH or even Doogie in an adult series role...I think Junior will escape, Phil will get Johnny and take over and it was good to see Tony law down the law...
vito wasn't limp when dancing with the boys, no pun intended. a.j. went from dating the rich hottie to the chain smoker.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060410...3Vtce6YExkF;_ylu=X3oDMTA3YXYwNDRrBHNlYwM3NjI- Gay 'Sopranos' Mobster Glad for Exposure By DOUGLAS J. ROWE, AP Entertainment Writer Mon Apr 10, 7:04 AM ET NEW YORK - Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhall and ... Joseph R. Gannascoli? In what Gannascoli cheerfully calls "the year of the queer," when "Brokeback Mountain" became a phenomenon and Philip Seymour Hoffman won an Oscar playing Truman Capote, Gannascoli's character (spoiler alert: read no further if you haven't seen the episode yet) was outed Sunday night on "The Sopranos." Dressed in appropriate leather bar attire, Vito Spatafore — the heretofore closeted gay mobster — was sighted by a couple wiseguys who came by the sweaty S&M joint to collect their protection money. "It's a joke," Vito weakly offers, then begs: "Don't say nothin'!" By the end of the episode, he's checked into a motel with a gun, looking suicidal. Fans of the HBO series were stunned last season when Meadow's boyfriend, Finn, saw a security guard sitting in the driver's seat of a truck — and then Vito's head popped up. This season, Vito has hung around the hospital while Tony Soprano was recovering from a gunshot wound, trying to ingratiate himself with Tony's wife while plotting with Paulie Walnuts to grab her cut of a big score. And he's chomped on carrots while prattling on about all the weight he's losing. (In real life, he's down to 260 from a high of 400 pounds.) Now that the gay story line is heating up, the 47-year-old Brooklyn-born actor is immensely pleased, in part because it was his idea to make Vito homosexual. "I saw him as, like, a cross between Mike Tyson and Liberace," Gannascoli told The Associated Press in an interview at his home. "I wanted to make him sort of in self-denial, self-loathing, a real gay hater." Gannascoli's suggestion was inspired by the book "Murder Machine," about the Gambino family, which had an openly gay member also named Vito. "They didn't bother him about it, because I guess he was good at what he did, which was chopping up bodies," Gannascoli said. Gannascoli concedes that he had a self-serving motivation for making the suggestion: Breaking out of the pack. "I thought that was a way of separating myself from the other actors, because I would have been in the background most of the time. You know, line here, line there, and nothing really substantial," said Gannascoli, whose character previously was best known for whacking Jackie Aprile Jr. "To really make an impact is all I can ask for." He also thought it would create an interesting acting challenge. But even amid all the recent gay buzz, Gannascoli knows the reaction to Vito won't be all positive. "I'm a Brooklyn guy. I was just in Brooklyn last night. And, you know, I had some real wise guys that look at me and they give me dirty looks. I've had guys, like, come after me in clubs," he said. He just hopes the "cerebral people" will appreciate his performance. Gannascoli said "The Sopranos" has changed his life "in so many ways." "Recognition, I'd say, the most. It allowed me to get married." It's also allowed Gannascoli to buy his house ("which coming from a rent-controlled apartment all my life was a huge step up"), get his novel published ("A Meal to Die For," loosely based on his life in the restaurant business) and develop a signature line of food (olive oil, tomato sauce, barbecue sauce, salsa and wine). "While I'm not going to be cheffing anymore, I'm going to be still involved in food. Which is one of my passions." He considered becoming a lawyer like his older brother but dropped out of St. John's University after two years. He did well the first year but by his second year, "I had a huge Quaalude business" that sidetracked him. ("I was hustlin', you know.") He then bounced around, working at various New York restaurants and becoming a "self-taught" kitchen magician. He even headed to New Orleans and learned Cajun cooking in the '80s. He owned all or part of a few restaurants over the years, but disliked the "day-to-day machinations" of keeping it going. It was during one of his numerous food-service jobs when acting felt like the dish of the day. A waiter-friend (who, like so many in New York, also was an aspiring actor) urged him to audition for a play. He got the role and started taking acting lessons. But he soon found himself pushing an ice-cream cart on Wall Street before eventually opening another eatery. He got burnt out from working 9 a.m. to 2 at night and started gambling heavily. On the last day of the 1990 pro football regular season he was in a hole. Like any desperate gambler, he tried to win it back fast. "Cody Carlson is responsible for my acting," Gannascoli joked, able to laugh about it now. The backup Houston Oilers quarterback started in place of injured Hall of Famer Warren Moon and had a great game against betting favorite Pittsburgh. The Steelers lost, and Gannascoli was out $60,000. Gannascoli paid off his debts with equity from his restaurant, thus avoiding a real-life leg-breaking — or worse — and then decided to head to L.A. On the West Coast, he met Benicio Del Toro, which led to an audition and small role in the 1993 feature "Money for Nothing" — and a meeting with Georgianne Walken ( Christopher Walken's wife) and Sheila Jaffe. Both Jaffe and Walken are casting directors who've chosen actors for roles in scores of films and TV shows — including "The Sopranos." Gannascoli underwent hip-replacement surgery last week and hopes the increased mobility will help him exercise and lose more weight. But while controlling his Falstaffian appetites, he'd loved to develop a hybrid cooking/sports show. He'd have a famous athlete as a guest and they'd cook up one of star's favorite dishes while talking about his career and showing clips. He'd like to call it "Food Bowl."
great episode I must say. Tony looking at his crew before he hit the bodyguard was great. It was showing how out of shape and weak he thinks his crew is. It is why he choose the strongest person in the room. vito I have a feeling is going to try and take out more then those 2 guys. Remember carmela said I would watch him if I were you. Also the throwing up thing is not that he hates violence now it is he is still recovering and all the stress from the fight makes him sick.
I thought they were actually going to keep the muscle guy. "My mom says I should count to ten, but I always forget."
Tony is about to start cracking down, and you can expect Chris, with his silly movie business, to be one of the first to get cracked on. Paulie is going to be in -big- trouble when Tony finds out about him leaning on the garbage boy behind his back. I could also see a mistake coming out of this new 'tough guy' Tony- offhandely taking Chris's advice about not farming out the job to Milan, and doing it himself. Tony's gut feeling is to keep it away from himself, and if he goes against it, it will only hurt him in the long run. I think they may keep the bodyguard around. Tony definately put him in his place. I don't think Tony was thinking about how weak his crew was, he just picked the biggest mongrel to whip to show that he was still top dog. I don't think that Vito is going to kill himself- why would he check into a hotel with a bag if that were the case? I think he is going to go after the two wiseguys who saw him, but you know it's going to be too late. You know that if you saw this apparently toughguy in a gay bar in full leather the first thing you would do is call you closest friend about it, and there goes the rumormill. I see Vito going on a killing spree, and maybe raping Finn before it's all said and done. Johnny Sack's fate was sealed when he cried in front of the mobsters. Phil Leotardo needed a reason to wack him, and now he has one. Sack will never go to trial; he will get killed in prison. I'm not sure where things will go with Junior. I could see him killing himself, going crazy and killing people in the psych ward, or even turning evidence, which would get discounted because he has Altzheimer's.
Junior just needs to go away. Same with AJ. They should have a duel where they both cap eachother and then one of falls and kills Janice somehow.
