Did anybody catch the ridicluously funny irony about how when Vito was telling his wife how he was no longer gay and they had another kid, vito jr. is off figure skating, of all sports, and saying "hey look at me!" It is the small touches like that that keep me marveling about the brilliance of the show. Also I noticed the part in the beginning w/the History channel clips talking about the occupation of the enemy capital (paris) presaged the Phil-encroaching-on-Tony storyline. More good stuff. Edit: also you've got to love the quick cut from the nude neo-classical ish statuary in Paris on the Pont Alexandre III RIGHT to the naked chick sign being polished at the Bada Bing. Hilarious.
I don't really like his character or the actor who plays him (lobianco or something). He plays the ultra-cliched wiseguy type in every major mob movie from the late 80's onward (goodfellas, casino, etc) and really isn't that good of an actor. I've got to say the one defect with the show is that it's becoming overrun with minor characters that take up too much time. A lot of the new guys they've brought in around Tony look like interchangeable extras from mob movies past.
Anyone else catch tonight's episode- I was disappointed in the overall ending of the show- I thought that there would be a little more action, but I'm definately looking forward to the last 8 episodes next year.
************** spoiler ****************** Yeah, the wife and I were a little disappointed as well, although we were very tense for the whole diner scene with Christopher. We just knew he was going to get it there - wrong! Anyway, Big Love really paid off though and made up for a lackluster Sopranos episode. It seems like anytime anyone steps to Tony, the hand of God (or the hand of Tony/Janice) strikes them down.
Meh. I guess David Chase wanted to tone things down this year, but meh. That ending with the family was reminiscent of the first couple of seasons when they ended on a family portrait scene. But those seasons had payoffs to go along with it, so it really meant something. Juxtaposing the idyllic familial scene with wacking left and right. That stuff was gold. People like payoffs. People like to see stuff happen. Big stuff. At least I do. How awesome would Christopher getting wacked, and causing a big time NY/NJ war for the final season be. That would have been an amazing thing to set up for the end of the series. But this? Meh. Maybe the last 8 episodes can redeem things, but as a setup for the final season, this episode did absolutely nothing for me.
WOW.. the ONLY good thing for me about the show last night was this line by Chris.. "You're not going anywhere, we can stay in and watch a DVD.. I have the 50 cent movie in the trunk of my car...... They were giving it away at the car wash." IMO.. VERY VERY lame way to end the season..
A very anti-climactic episode to end the season last night, but, IMHO, it sets things up for the end of the show: Christopher...either he will overdose or Tony will find out about his using and whack him. Either way, Christofuh won't be alive when the show ends. Carmela...notice how she started getting involved in Tony's business only when the spec house failed. Now that it is going again she will be preoccupied. Silvio.....the consiglieri isn't giving Tony any decent advice, and even whacked someone on his own. Will this ruin his and Tony's relationship? Phil...will he respond sincerely to Tony's words in the hospital room, or will he order a hit on him? Will he even survive his heart attack? A.J. - anyone else notice the transformation in his persona in one episode? He's gone from spoiled kid to laborer, and from shtupping a spoled kid blonde hottie to shtupping a Latina 10 years older than him who has a 3 year old. Will this new "experience" convince him to go into his father's line of work? Also, giving the street guys the bicycle to make them go away was frikking hilarious! Tony...I really believe he will be alive when the show ends, but someone will rat him out and he will wind up sharing a cell with Johnny Sack. Remember....the whole moral of the Sopranos is that mobsters always end up one of two ways: dead or in prison. The fun of the last eight episodes will be trying to guess which ones wind up dead and which ones wind up in prison.
What he said...This whole season has been a let down, but will set up the final 8...I need to cancel my sub and then add it back when this comes around again... AJ is funny, giving the bike to those punks......Christopher and the 50 cent DVD...LMAO... Summer is going to be boring...
so was A.J.'s new girl a golddigger or did she really like him. couldn't tell how they were playing that.
no kidding, she was playing a young teenager in fat albert, now she's playing an older woman for a.j. so who is the best looking woman in the history of the series? my vote goes for the imaginery house guest in the first sesason when melfi had tony on the lithium. number two goes to the female mob boss in italy.
I have to go with: 1) Mob Boss in Italy 2) Mercedes Salesperson who was nucking futs (She's on Law and Order Now) 3) Bada Bing Girls... I couldn't tell either on the gold digger, but she's kinda hot too..
Very anti-climactic season finale. I wouldn't mind if there were years of the Sopranos to look forward to, but they need to start wrapping things up. It was just another episode. Notice how Phil's underboss (the one who's for wacking Tony) is giving Tony grief in the hospital? It could add up to something next season. On the other hand, they never resolve could-be plots all the time (russian guy, anyone?).
anyone think uncle junior is gonna escape? he gave that guard a bunch of money. i could see the show ending that way, with uncle junior killin t...
I liked the way it was directed and done. I do feel they could have had some type of cliffhanger or someone getting killed to further prep us for the final 8. I'm still a fan of the show no matter what... I'm thinking they had to get rid of alot of ish before they can fully launch their arsenal. I hope...
That's a very good point. What did he say about scratching each other's backs? My prediction for AJ is that he gets taken by this girl, he kills her, Tony helps him cover it up and he ends up following his father's path.
