negative. camby is an awesome help defender and has range out to 18 feet.

    The problem is injury.

I don't see how it would be any worse than the starting 5 we send out there every night right now. I don't know. I just know this team is too short outside of Yao and too unathletic outside of Brooks and Landry. It's not that our defense is bad from lack of effort, it's just that our guys our slower laterally and close out slower than they have in years past because they're older. This is why we lose to the young teams. They over expose and exploit this weakness time and time again. It's why we match up well with the better (older) teams and worse against the less experienced yet more athletic (young) teams.

Scola is slow but atleast hes somewhat active. Camby just likes to stand in the paint and block shots and rebound ala Yao. Luis can atleast come out and hedge on pick and rolls. guys like CP3, Deron williams, Kobe Bryant, Tony Parker would carve up a defensive front line of Yao/Camby.

    Read this Scouting Report

He would be great on help defense. We would have to be wary of teams with big men that can shoot, otherwise he would be great in both transition offense and defense because he runs like a deer and has incredible length. He would help us totally lock down the post because of his length and help defense. He also has range out to 18 feet and is a respectable passer. I wouldnt mind him for 25 minutes a game, its a question of whether the contract is worth it (keeping his injury proneness in mind). I wouldnt mind him for a year... he can be a more refined Keon Clark.

Not when Brooks is in the game. He's fast enough to allow either one of those guys (Yao/Camby) to fade back to protect the lane and close out on the shooter or stay in front of them before they drive. I don't know if a lot of people realized that this was one of the weapons that having Brooks in the game takes away from the oposing point guards and what has allowed him to out play CP3, Billups, and Devin Harris this year. Rafer can't deny the pick and roll and it has been an achilles heal of the rockets for years when Yao's man is used. Either way, you play the matchups. There's no reason Camby couldn't play with Scola and Scola couldn't still play with Yao given the matchup. I just think with our wing defenders a step slower this year than in year's past, you need more length in the front court and a better help defender. At this point, you simply can't rebuild. You have to go with McGrady and and nobody is going to take Battier or Alston. Artest is the piece with the most value. Camby comes off the books next year. Morey won't bring in Magette or Heinrich though because of their contracts. You're still win now and free in 2010 with Camby.

That sounds about right since he's led the league in blocked shots the last 4 years. Oh yeah, he won Defensive Player of the Year 2 years ago, too.

We may not agree on who to get but it seems that at least that most of us agree that Ron has to go....

pick and roll defense.....iu know he can block shots, but what about when his man comes out a sets a pick...is he quick enough to come out and defense all the way at the three point line. can he recover back if his man pops out for a jumper? I dont think so.

Hed be a good addition if we didnt have yao, but....

    Yup.

I think my priorities would be (1) Spacing and shooting, (2) length and athleticism.

I think we could probably get Sean Williams or Josh Boone for cheap from the Nets.

Ron Artest & Brent Barry to Minnesota.

Mike Miller and Josh Boone to Houston.

    Rashard McCants to New Jersey.

I think he would be much faster than Yao. If Camby's man came out to set a pick, he definitely would be able to come out to hedge the pick and fast enough to recover and help in the post. His length pretty much does the job for him.

If Yao comes out on the pick and roll, he almost always gets beat if they switch, but thankfully, Camby is an awesome help defender and will rotate off his man to cover the post. Like I said early, imo, I think the post would be locked down. Its a matter of whether we can cover the perimeter, it shouldnt be a problem with Battier prowling.

Yup, you can't have two scorers who need the ball to be effective playing together. The third scorer either has to be an effecient off the ball type scorer (Mike Miller/ Rip Hamilton) or a balls to wall driver (Maggette). I think Scola is actually the best third scorer on this team thus Artest is expendable for whatever you can get.

Thats what im saying though, dude....if camby plays 30 minutes, some of those minutes are going to be with yao...You cant play d with both those guys on the floor at the same time

Read the second paragraph.. if Yao comes out, Camby is a good enough help defender to stuff the pick and roll... so I dont get what youre saying.

My post was to argue that Camby and Yao on the floor at the same time could work.

Anyway, I still think were better of getting something cheaper like Josh Boone and focusing our chips on getting Mike Miller.

Nope, only the ones writing in the thread about hating on Ron agrees. Dont know why you dont read the other threads and admit but Tmac has had the most by far. Then Rafer. Shane and Ron probably share the same amount of trade theories.

I by far think Tmac has to go first but like I saw in a earlier post by you DD (dont know what thread) Tmac wont have the most value until next year.

But one thing I dont understand is why Ron gets more hate then anyone else on this date from that one game. He isnt even the 4th person I would consider trading after 3 STARTERS.

Why can't Yao play with Camby? He played alongside Cato. Camby makes more sense than Scola or Landry because neither can protect the basket when Yao gets pulled out in pick and roll or on the bench with foul trouble. I know this doesn't fit in this thread, but what did ron have to do with Mayo scoring 32 and Warrick owning scolandry?

If we trade Artest, then we should try to get RIP for him and Luther. If we keep Artest we should start him at the 4, and bring Scola off the bench to replace Yao in the pivot. Artest at the 4 with Battier at the 3 and McGrady at the 2 is great spacing for Yao. With that lineup, you could roll out Brooks with the starters, giving us great spacing for Yao to run the post and McGrady to run the point. Then you come off the bench with Rafer, Scola, Landry, and Wafer, and if need be Chuck. That second unit is a veteran second unit that will scramble up and down the floor very well. Not to mention our first unit will be moving also with Artest running small at the 4 and Brooks buzzing around.

    Starters should be:
    Brooks
    McGrady
    Battier
    Yao
    Artest

    2nd unit
    Rafer
    Wafer
    Barry
    Scola
    Landry

This team has the same problems they have had for a minute. They can't morph versitlity to matchup with different styles. The same rangy center that gives yao problems, also gives Deke problems. The same forward that kills Scola, kills landry. Neither of their centers can play together and neither of their 4's can play together. So what you have is a limited team on the frontline. Scola or Landry needs to go or they need to find a 4/5 that can play behind Yao and along with Yao. Turiaf,Elson,Anderson, wouldve been nice fits, instead the club chose to sign barry with the lle. They used the mle on Landry.
