I hope you guys realize you are taking the opinion of one Memphis Grizzlies fan as the gospel. If it's a consensus, that's one thing. But, as recently as a year ago, I knew several Rockets fans who legitimately wanted to bench Yao Ming for Dikembe Mutombo. You can find evidence to support Ryan Bowen being a full MLE player if you judge it by one person. I'm not going to post any links or copy and posts because I know that's against Clutch's policy, but I strongly suggest that some of you lurk around some of the various Grizzlies' forums on the net and view their scouting reports on Battier (from watching him on a regular basis). They are quite different from the one MemphisX gave.
I believe he was 28 of 88 from the college 3 last season I doubt he will improve on that at the NBA level where he won't have the benefit of being more tallented than the other team at every position in every game he plays.
You do know that NBA players have developed a three point shot once they got here , right? Magic, Dr. J, etc. To rule it out or to guarantee it would be silly.

See the problem with people who like this trade for Houston is that they are equating Rudy Gay to Stromile Swift. Rudy Gay is not lazy. Rudy Gay has no work ethic questions. He was just not assertive enough on offense for the taste of draftniks.
I love it. Go to the playoffs and still get the best player in the draft. Can't beat it. How does it feel to go to the lottery and get a role player?
Hey Memphisx was right on about the Stro signing (to the dot) while we jumping for joy he told us the truth. Like we would be able to provide other team fans info about our players. The assesment seems about right on. Great hustle / heart guy think Ryan Bowen with a better shot. Watching him play against the Rox I noticed he seemed to have average foot speed for SF but will get burned against SG's in the league. Bruce Bowen is alot quicker with better lateral movement than Shane. J
the guy can play d, deadeye 3pt range and has leadership skills besides the stats...their are things that you can't measure such things are called intangibles and basketball IQ, which the rockets lack. Smart basketball is a brand of bball the rockets do not play.
He is more an undersized PF right now. He is not good laterally at all. He is in decline. I know he is just 28ish but he plays like he is over 30.
I too question whether Battier has the footspeed to guard 2/3's. I dont think he does. He is more of a 3/4. Battier is the Rockets "range shooting 4 man." The Rockets STILL have a void at the 2 guard spot, someone that can be a sidekick to Tmac. And someone that has length at that spot. I see our lineup something like this: PG: Mike James (hopefully!)/Alston SG: ?????/Head SF: Tmac/Novak PF: Battier/Howard/Hayes C: Yao/Deke
Guys get over this WE GOT THE BETTER OF THE DEAL PLAIN AND SIMPLE. Gay is 3 years off from being able to give any team he's on any type of help. Battier provides Shooting,Defense, Heart, and a very high basketball IQ. FURTHERMORE HIS DEFENSE IS NOT OVER RATED. Memphis can say what he wants but he's wrong. Battier will start for us and will provide a valuable role. Getting rid of SWift is awesome to and for those who think Howard and Hayes can't handle the PF spot YOUR WRONG THEY CAN AND THEY WILL. Rockets will be back in the top 5 in the west next season and back in the top 7 in the league aswell. Go Rockets!!!

Memphis the entire time that they have had Battier have been bringing in replacements take his job away (Miller, Posey, etc.). This openly questions the value-add Memphis saw in Shane. Good but not good enough. Pimping his FG% and 3P% without the context of his ppg and his 3P attempts per game is disengenious. If Battier can't guard a NBA 2, then we are so *ucked by this deal. Battier becomes the best backup 3 in the league. We still do not have a string 2 or a backup 1. And the 2 for 1 rotation player trade means our paper thin depth took a serious hit.
