    I also always hated the 40s-50s references or the extremely specific joke references Family Guy made. The ones that I actually did get, they weren't comically funny, they were just funny because I got the reference.

    Simpsons would only rarely do stuff like that. The only thing I can remember was a short Thomas Pynchon joke.
