The title is misleading. They're only on production strike, and if worse comes to worse, Fox will hire scabs to replace their voices. Fox owns their character voices. The Simpsons is making money from the Simpsons that they won't cancel the show until selling the reruns of new episodes costs less than producing an episode.
Yeah I only like obscure movies. Godfather, Forrest Gump, Snatch, Fight Club, Swingers, etc. are very obscure.
Futurama is extremly undrated. It was very clever and had many great cultural referances. On of the best is can recall is the one in the New York trash episode. It was something like "the landfills were full...New Jersey was full"
i love the simpsons and will be very disappointed when it ends, especially like this but heard an interview with Nancy Cartwright last week and she says it take the voice peopl half a day to a whole day max to do the voices for ONE episode damn $125,000 per episode for 22 episodes over 22 days work seems like a reasonable wage
of course, as is the case with athletes, they aren't demanding to be paid for the actual physical labor of talking for a day (or playing 2 hours every other day in basketball), they're simply asking for their piece of the pie. if you're a huge reason why your company makes a ton of money, even if you don't physically do much, you damn sure are still gonna ask for your share. i'm sure ray romano doesn't do 2 million dollars worth of work for an episode, but he's gonna get his cut of the millions he makes cbs because that's only fair.
i agree completely w/ what you're saying.... the simpsons have basically sucked for the past 4 or 5 years. they've just been lame, really. the humor isn't as nearly as intelligent as it used to be. it's like the writers simply rely on being the "simpsons" now instead of actually developing a quality script. i say it's time to put the show down, before it gets even worse than it already is. it's become too "MADtv" like (which never has, nor never will hold a candle to SNL - at least up until a few years ago). and Nomar..... WTF?!? you think family guy is a "great" show, but you don't like the simpsons???? it's the exact same type of humor, only that the family guy is a little more controversial (b/c it's a much newer program). BTW, i love the family guy. i will personally email you several episodes of the simpsons. i would, however, like for you to post your personal review of each episode in return. if you cant find their humor "clever," it's simply because you dont want to...... it seems like you dislike things just because a vast majority of people like them. unfortunately for you, that doesn't make you "cool." i'm sorry.... i just find it damn-near impossible that someone who thinks the family guy is a great program also thinks that the simpsons are "dumb" and that they "suck." it just doesn't add up.
Sure email them, come into #houstonrockets from the Java page clutch set up for #clutchfans and ill give you my email adress. And as to the "i dont like popular things because it makes me cool" argument, UGH. How many times do i have to respond to this. As I posted above, I like TONS of popular movies and TV shows. I dislike a few. LOTR, Simpson, Kill Bill stand out. Does that make me not like popular things in general? Of course not.
This sucks. I was wondering why the voice actors would be so stubborn about this, and then I read francis 4 prez's comments and realized that made perfect sense. That's right, but it's so wrong to do that. I hadn't seen it lately, but when I was watching it several years ago it was my favorite show. Don't end the show like this.
I don't trust anyone who doesn't like The Simpsons. I just don't like them as people. They are thieves and psychopaths, and they would not be welcome in my home. I have personally known some of these people, and I could tell they were born without souls. They are mutants who need to be destroyed. That being said, I have faith the show will carry on. But last time this happened, they could not find any stand-ins for voices because the show is too revered. It will survive this.
"The Simpsons" is fox's 2nd highest rated show behind American Idol. It averages nearly 13 million people of week. The actors holding out are going to get a pay raise. The show will continue.
actually...Family Guy is coming out with more episodes. http://bbs2.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=75282 i used to like the simpsons alot, at one point it was my favorite show, however, it has simply been getting lamer and lamer. i hardly even laugh anymore...maybe once a show if that, and the story doesn't even keep my attention. Family Guy is far superior, and right now i even prefer to watch old tapes of South Park - which can be damn funny at times.
Simpsons, funny? Sure, it had a good run. Family Guy, funnier? Definitely. We've been over this several times before. I've been attacked several times for advocating Family Guy over the Simpsons, but it's the cold, hard truth. And I think a good deal of people are realizing it. The Simpsons tells a story. Along the way, humor is interjected. Social commentary is also present. A good premise for a show? Yes. Family Guy doesn't go more than three or four minutes without a joke. Period. Family Guy is an assault on the senses, at almost all times. The purpose of FG is humor, plain and simple. For this reason, FG is a funnier show. Longevity does not matter. Period. And anyone using longevity as an excuse loses credibility. Others losing credibility are those who claim that FG's cancellation reflects upon its content. This is a complete fallacy. FG was cancelled because its constantly-shifting time slot made it hard to build a loyal viewer following. It is now viewable at a regular time on Cartoon Network, and has built a rabid fan base. It has become the first TV series to be resurrected based on the success of DVD sales. So without those excuses, namely that the Simpsons is good because it's been around forever (much like herpes), and that Family Guy is bad because it was cancelled, what do you have left? Not a damn thing. Compare any episode of the Simpsons to any episode of FG, and you will see more jokes (or even if you don't find FG funny, more joke attempts) on average per episode of FG than per episode of the Simpsons. The Simpsons can certainly be entertaining, but FG tries its heart out to be as entertaining as possible at all times. These shows are both comedies, and for the reasons listed above, FG is the better comedy. And it's coming back. And when it does, if the Simpsons has not been taken off the air, and the two compete for a time slot, Family Guy will absolutely slaughter the Simpsons. Count on it.
Considering that The Simpsons made Fox possible and that it's the network's second-highest show, I don't think the actors' demands are unreasonable. In fact, compared to other similarly popular shows, they're downright cheap.
You're looking at this at completely, totally the wrong angle. If you're arguing that right now, Family Guy is funnier than the Simpsons on average, that's likely true. It is no secret that the series has fallen off. Sixteen!! seasons will do that. But there was nothing - nothing - like the Simpsons on when it came out. And it's humor was sharper, fresher and funnier than anything that could be thrown at it. It has nothing to do with 'age'. It has to do with innovation and totally changing what was considered the 'norm' on television at the time. A big part of that was that animation was for kids. The Simpsons changed all that. You can downplay that if you want, but that's a poor excuse and an easy way out for acknowledging the importance of the show. Do you think that some of the great animated humor series we get to enjoy now - FG, South Park, Futurama, hell all of Adult Swim - would have seen the light of day without the success of The Simpsons? In addition, Simpsons never made its name with crude humor, which, lets face it, is the strength of Family Guy. That is fact. It just so happens that crude humor like that is damn funny. I actually offer that South Park is a better show than Family Guy. Not necessarily because of the laughs, but the kind of laughs. South Park combines the crude humor of FG with a really risky jab at modern issues and current events. FG doesn't take that risk. FG is very, very funny. And I'd rather watch it than the Simpsons right now. But it is nowhere near as important to the entire genre as the Simpsons was. And it will have nowhere near the legacy that The Simpsons has created. FG owes a lot to The Simpsons. Period.
Nomar is a great reviewer. I know that anything he LOVES I will most likely hate and anything the HATES I'll probably love. That makes a great reviewer because I totally know what to expect: his opinions suck and the opposite is usually true!
OK, I'm rewatching the Simpsons and the Futurama. I'm at season 9 of the Simpsons and season 3 of Futurama. The Simpsons is more consistently funny. There are a few stinkers, but comparatively more in Futurama so far. There were a few really good Futurama episodes but many of them are mediocre.
