During the National Anthem the girl forgot the words and everyone in the stadium picked it up and started singing in a hushed manner. It was very cool considering if this was on the East Coast she would have most likely been booed off the court.Instead of deferring to the crowd in a classy/patriotic moment she proceeded to butcher it further....too much. As far as the game goes.....Arizona had way too many easy buckets while we built Rick James's BRICKHOUSE.Yes,the refs were horrible, but we weren't fockassed.(possibly to jacked up about the GuyV deal...BTW...Put him in Springfield 10 years ago already)They imposed their will on us.I really thought we should have pressed earlier and more. That said,Arizona's freshman guard and sophmore postman were really good.Another factor was that this was Marcus Cousin's first game back since getting out of the boot.Lanny hasn't completely gotten himself back in shape either. As long as we stay healthy we will be a force to be reckoned with come tournament time. We'll get in and might very well win a game. One last thing..Dream should have been there!
are you kidding? the day it was on schedule, it was going to be a sellout no doubt, and it was. iono why someone else was saying it wasnt.... it was "packed to the rafters", after all, hofheinz can only seat 7-8k as for the game, I dont know how the crowd is since on the other side since im always near the front of the students section, and when there is a big game, we are very loud. ive been to every game this season (cept 1, too busy that day). its sad that students dont pack it up for every game, esp since were having a good season. my friend and I had been heckling bayless the entire game from the front row, and he even stared us down after a few buckets from his 33. nixon was real effective at the start of the game, crossing guys left and right, but eventually zona made the adjustments and made it much harder for him. what drove me nuts was that they would double the dribble penetration and the guy with the ball NEVER looked to pass inside where either toney or cousin were wide open the entire second half. their arms must have gotten very tired from waving to get attention so often. i was also very dissapointed to see our version of "the Matrix" (Dion Dowell) only get on the board in the second half by a pair of free throws. I dont care who you play, if your best player isnt scoring or at least attracting good amounts of attention, then youre going to lose every time. My only hope is that we somehow beat Memphis once this season, and seeing as were a terrible road team, our best chance will be in Houston.regardless, even if we lose all memphis games, but win every other game, we can still be in good position to make the tourney for the first time ever... Go Coogs!
and as for the national anthem, when she screwed up the second time around, the students section was the group that started the movement to get the crowd to sing it. I thought that it was very cool for the whole crowd to sing it, it was very inspirational...
"we can still be in good position to make the tourney for the first time ever..." Glad to have you in the stands and cheering young Coug...but check your history..we have been there before..Sweet 16...Elite 8...Final 4...Championship Game
Really that's why have those things called banners. Heck watch ESPN classic when they're doing the college basketball they love to play that DAMN NC State game!
I'm just going by what a friend of mine who was at the game told me. He said it wasn't even close to being sold out.
Nah, it was full. Not every single seat had an ass in it, but it must have been a sellout because all of the non-reserve seating was filled up.
ayyo, you know what i mean- im not blind, typo... geez. "first time in a long time" is what i meant to say and rockets/ cougars/ hakeem fan is very well educated in UH's winning tradition- i just hope to recapture it. it might as well be first time ever cause we sure as hell havent done anything notworthy in YEARS. it broke my heart to watch the georgetown and nc games... and that tip in pisses me off whenever they show it EVERY YEAR come march madness time. im not uneducated in our history, just a typo, dawg.
There were a lot of open seats especially on the far end goal side. I sat in section 101 (nearest to UH bench). I heard one possible reason is because students were still coming back to start winter semester. But still, we could not sell 300-500 more seats for a Top 25 ranked opponent? Until UH upgrades their facilities Robertson cap. 31,000 and Hofheinz 8,000 maybe? UH will never get serious run on ESPN or CBS IMO. The present facilities are not going to cut it. SEC ('Bama, LSU, Ga., Tenn., Fla.) get consistent coverage because their facilities are top flight and consistent playoff intensity (atmospheres). The networks love drama.
The networks also love BCS conferences...so much that they have deals with them. CUSA has a deal with CSTV. Aside from there, the only national network CUSA teams are going to be on will be a handful of ESPN/ESPN2 games.
GuyV fell before the game, suffered a broken hip and dislocated shoulder, but still went on with the ceremony. He even hit his head on the car door on the way down. Surgery is scheduled today. He was hugging a friend.
Good to see a pic of Dream at the bedside of GuyV this morning in the Chronicle. He's doing well following the surgery...crazy fans. Tough to go through that surgery and recovery at 85 or so though. My Great grandfather went through the hip part at around that age.
