im all on on KJ island in 2016-17 and going forward, he finally has a coach who understands different types of players. The versatility is their as he can play the 2,3,4 (maybe the 1 down the line) and brings an element of cutting and attacking to a team who has way to many stagnant shooters in the past while having a semi efficient shot himself that needs respect given to it i look forward to paying him 70+ million over 4 years in the summer of 18' as our 2nd best player and will be a key reason why harden will re sign.
I think this thread will play a big part in my abandoning of this cesspool called Clutchfans.net Seriously though, I hope you're trolling
KJ has looked fantastic so far in the pre-season. He actually was fitting in very well at the starting spot next to Harden against the Pelicans. The most noticeable improvement in KJ's game is his positioning. He runs to the right lane during fast break situations, he makes fantastic cuts to get open for alley-oops and layups. Defensively he has been an overall positive too. I do hope he gets more minutes during the season, but with how good Dekker has looked as well it could be tough. I reckon going forward, Brewer will get moved. Eric Gordon will play the backup PG and KJ McDaniels will play the backup SG as more of a hyper athletic defensive specialist who will cover the opposing PGs. Sam Dekker will get the backup SF spot.
2nd best player? Honestly I see more potential in Dekker then Kj who at best will be a defensive stopper. he has a very limited offensive game and offensive awareness in general
Oh my god! And you're another St.Kilda fan with that Riewoldt picture as well! But you're on an island alone on this my friend. Agree with most of your post, but you lost me with that last paragraph! KJ if used correctly and given opportunity will be a nice role player (hopefully). He's definitely shown signs this pre-season (and summer league) and love his defence and athletisism. So my fingers are crossed he can do well and get regular minutes. But I'm not ready to build a franchise on Harden and KJ!
KJ is a defensive role player with some upward potential. These guys are a dime a dozen in this league. If he is the 2nd best player two years from now, then the Rockets would be a hot mess ad no way Harden stays here because of KJ freaking McDonalds.
Don't feel the bolded, bold prediction but I certainly agree with most of the rest. You are who you can guard and I think KJ has the potential to be able to switch onto 1-3s. I would love to see Bzdelik throw KJ onto pgs for a few minutes to try disrupt their offense. At this point, if KJ can keep it together between the ears for the most part then I expect him to a productive, versatile player. I see him getting minutes due to his defense more so than his offense. MDA knows how to put KJ in motion on the offensive side as you alluded to, but if he can play versatile defense and rebound then I would say your bold prediction would come true.
i see a backup role for him this season for sure. next season if he can continue to improve his shot i can see him replacing ariza as the starter. he has the ability to be a lockdown defender on the perimeter while also having more creativity on offense than ariza.
KJ McDaniels' defense is so tantalizing. I would like to see him develop enough of an IQ and a shot to stay out there so he can be swatting other team's SGs and SFs the moment they step inside the arc. Not convinced it's going to happen. I like that D'Antoni wants it to happen.
An underrated benefit of playing KJ next to Harden to guard opposing PG's is it forces those guys to guard him right back (or please guard Harden) , and while he's not a great 1 on 1 offensive player he's a tough cover for a 6ft PG to follow off the ball on the baselines, box out and jump with when they're not usually having to do those things. Starting Harden at PG and Bev at SG is just a name change, starting Harden at PG and KJ at SG is a game change.
I think Dekker will get a lot of minutes at the SF and PF spot when we run small ball so I don't think he will impact KJs minutes too much. But Brewer might be the odd man out. Anyways I'm pretty excited over the improvement in KJs game so far this summer. ( Not sure if actual improvements or just finally has a system and given a chance ) There is definitely a spot for him on the court this year.
im not ready now, but in 2 years a while lot will change how the NBA game is played, perfect player who can develop into a hybrid butler/green
He finally has a coach that understands the type of player he is and could be. I can see him becoming a very good 2-way player. The sky is the limit for him and I'm happy to see his development.
There have been plenty of threads that are cringe worthy over the years. For instance, look at any thread I have created. But if you sift through the dirt you will find something that makes it worth your time. That is what I have found about CFans.
He has good shooting form. Watch him at the free throw line, nothing but net. The 3pt shot will come around with more practice and consistency and he's getter better at it already.
i've been clamoring for kj to play more for 2 seasons now. ..but the dude is what he is. he has great potential to be a great role player but nothing more than that. the biggest problem for the rockets is that they didn't give minutes to him the last two years so if he plays really well this year they might not be able to match the offer. (think bad teams overpaying for role players).
