Thing is just adding a 2nd star isn't going to do anything....You need 3 at minimum...or a full starting lineup of borderline all stars like Lowry, Millsap type of players with Harden ala the 04 Pistons. This would have been the perfect opportunity to have 1 season of a great defensive head coach under our belt and an offseason where we could get Ibaka, Millsap, George Hill type of players. Instead we will chase Gallo, Gay, Redick type players because offense is all we care about.
The only "big player" I want is Gordon Hayward. If we can't get him, then get me a PF that can actually shoot in Houston, like Channing Frye. And if this is the last we have seen of Nene, then get me another veteran big man, like Tyson Chandler. Those are the types of moves we need to make.
That's it? You're just hoping were good enough to get to the WCF and get our asses kicked? B/c that is all Hayward and Frye and Chandler could do for us.
This is the issue in a nutshell. If I were a superstar, I would not look at James and think "this guy will help me bring my game to the next level." On the contrary, James shows no inclination to make anyone around him better or act as a compliment to their talents. If the ball isn't in his hands, he's giving you nothing.
Are you kidding me? James Harden made the rest of this D-League team look like All Stars and made the entire media think that he has a better "supporting cast" than RWB at OKC. We know now that is rubbish as evidenced by the fact that when James isn't dishing or driving, the rest of the team can't do squat. Even Eric Gordon who was touted as the second coming of the Messiah. Granted plenty of the praise laid on Harden this season also stems from the synergy of D'Antoni and Harden together working in a system. We just need interior defense and it starts from the PF position. Capela fit perfectly in a D'Antoni system and I think he was arguably the second best player in the series. Say what you want but Harden still was our best player in the playoffs and will continue to be going forward.
Yes, that is it. They don't have to completely reinvent the wheel. The team's identity is set, that's half the battle. Now we fine-tune it. Give me Hayward because he is a great shooter that can make plays. Give me a guy like Frye that can shoot the ball. And give me a guy like Tyson Chandler who can play low post defense, rebound, and finish near the rim. Don't get me wrong, the team looked like absolute garbage tonight, but I still think we were the only team in the West that could go toe-to-toe with Golden State and make it a good series.
I agree...if we had a guy like Tyson or Hayward we would've swept OKC and at least would've won Game 5 if not the series
Utterly delusional - I can't believe anyone thinks we wouldn't have gotten anything but a 4 game beat down and sweep from the Warriors. Harden probably wouldn't have even arrived at the arena for those games.
Someone who doesn't have good handles and can't create for others. For example Anthony Davis. Most of his shots are assisted. He can become a ufa in the summer of 2020 if he opts out (which he should unless he gets injured). If he shows he doesn't want to stay, NO could trade him in 2019. So just wait for a couple of years? lol
Literally two days ago we were out-hustling the Spurs on their home floor while beating them AND the refs (until we decided to stand around on offense). Everyone on this site was extremely proud to be a Rockets fan. Now we're getting a 4 game beat down? Really? Get a grip. The team didn't have it tonight. They struggled on an epic level, just like San Antonio did in Game 1. This team would have put up a fight with Golden State. Beat them? Probably not, but it would have been a good series. Give me Hayward, Frye, and Chandler (if Nene doesn't come back) and I'll go to battle with this team.
I agree except that Golden State would gentle man sweep us again! One game is pretty good when considered we have mental midgets on the team.
I don't think the second star can be a nice guy on the court. I would want someone who will hold people accountable including Harden. Right now the whole team is collecting checks and filling up the box score thanks to Harden so they wouldn't dare point fingers at him. The second star needs to know that he doesn't need Harden to be successful, Harden needs him. I just can't stand how Harden gets upset at that invisible guy in the corner for not catching his arrant pass.
