I will be very disappointed if they hire Ausmus. Crane needs to give Luhow a call to remind him about the philosophies that got the Astros where they are today. Analytics, Analytics, Analytics. Of course I could be wrong so if Ausmus is an analytics leaning manager then ok.
If anything Houston fans and media are too soft. The media should have been on Dusty and demanded more accountability about this stupid ass decision to keep playing the worst starting catcher the league has probably seen since Luis Pujols when you have a potential ROY catcher collecting splinters.
I don't necessarily want Ausmus, and would be surprised if that's who it is But Brad is very well educated (Dartmouth) and very intelligent. I would be shocked if he did not use all of the analytics available to him, and probably be very good using them He hasn't been overly successful in his other managerial stops, and he had some talent in Detroit. I wouldn't hold anything that happened with the Angels against him, that entire organization is and has been run like a train coming off it's tracks Again, i'm not endorsing him for the job, but from the standpoint of understanding and using analytics, I doubt that would be an issue
I dont like the way Crane is handling this at all. They are slow tracking this at a snails pace, meanwhile Espada is waiting in the wind. Passing on other opportunities hoping/thinking/wondering whether he will be the next Stros skipper. Crane has to know Espada has been put in a difficult position. If Crane doesnt want Espada, at least do him the decency of telling him so he can take other opportunities. If Crane does want Espada, then why hasnt he offered him the job? It just doesnt make any sense. Some of what Dana has said recently doesnt make any sense either. This FO is looking more incompetent by the week as a result IMO.
I'm not excited about how any of this is unfolding thus far. Espada and Ausmus simply can't be our leading candidates. We are better than this. I would much rather give Maddon another swing at winning a title.
