rudy gay was never going to be a rocket so maybe this thread should be on thabo sefolosha, the guy who was going to play here had memphis not made the deal.
So which one is it? 1) The Rockets were too stupid to pick Rudy gay at #8, despite him being available and even if Memphis did not ask Rockets to pick him up for them OR 2) The Rockets were too stupid to pick him up and trade him to Memphis for Battier.
Interesting side note I didn't see in another post. Rudy Gay jumped center to start the 3rd OT. He outjumped Eddy Curry for a Grizz possession. And there were times he went from guarding PF David Lee to switching off on Q or even Francis. IMO, he can defend 3 positions. And I'm going to keep posting it every time one of you silent Rockets' war room participants bring your opinion up. If it was about Sefolosha, then they got fleeced even further. Aquiring Sefolosha would have meant A) they'd have gotten more athletic and B) an established vet would have been attached meaning more depth because it would have been a 2 for 2 trade instead of 2 for 1. They wouldn't trade down without adding another player or pick. But since you brought it up, Thabo was 5-7, 13 points, 4 boards and 2 steals in 21 min vs ORL.
One thing for sure, this year's rookie class is not sloppy. So if some of you said are true, that Rox was never really interested in anyone in the draft and they traded their draft pick to Memphis long before the draft day, well, that means they are more stupid!!!
Exactly. Thabo was money, albeit in garbage time, vs. the Heat also. He also looked better than Battier. I've said it before about Gay and I'll say it again - what was impressive was that he was active, aggressive, and not afraid to take shots when all the pre-draft knocks on him was that he was too passive and shrinking. It sure didn't look like it last night.
Thabo will be very, very good as well. We sure could've used one of these two guys developing/learning from McGrady to eventually replace him when his body just gives up on him...which looks to be sooner than most think.
You must also remember that Rudy came off the bench to do his damage last night against the Knicks. Rudy is an athlete and is very exciting to watch. As mentioned by some previous posters, he made some clutch shots and plays. Kyle Lowry also came off the bench to give the Grizzlies a much needed energy boost. Lowry is a hustler and was all over the floor!
He's exactly what we needed, an athletic guy who could make plays and run up and down the court. Dang, I was hoping Gay would be a bust, looks like that isn't going to happen.
It would me. I like his talent and his hustle, but he is really, really raw. He's every bit as raw as any high schooler I've ever seen. If that unreal shot was any indication, Adam Morrison will get it.
If the rockets had not traded rudy gay, he will come off the bench then after 2 missed shots and 2 turnovers, JVG will sit his ass the rest of the night! So does this make any difference whether we traded for Rudy gay or not???
9 boards in 20 minutes against Detroit tonight. And a 3 to tie the game late, though the Griz went on to lose.
Partially true. There's no point in this discussion. JVG would never use Rudy(if he picked him), the way he's used now, nor would he have many playing minutes at start. It's best for him, that he's with the team he is now, as is for the Rockets that they got a Veteran and made player that will be potentially too useful during the playoffs were rudy's lack of experience might show. And everyone knows the regular season is only for gaining a better placement for the playoffs that trully count. That's the way I see it anyway. That said, I think by playoffs time, both Novak and Spanoulis will have many minutes as I see JVG playing them(bit by bit more), but that might have been detrimental to Rudy's developement. If you have the "star" attitude, it will kill you during the regular season, not being used as much as you think you should have been.
