What this have to do with Holmgren? Even though I was wrong pre draft about Thunder wanting Paolo. The rumors all linked Chet to the Thunder. So it was either Paolo or Jabari going to fall to #3.

I must of misread something, what did I miss?

Did they want to trade up for Jabari or Paolo?

If the Rockets we're seriously "unprepard" for the possibility of Holmgren still being on the board that's an absolute joke.

They should have known every detail under the sun for the top 3 guys.

Did you read article? Apparently not.

The Rox didn’t have access to Chet’s medicals and wouldn’t have been granted access to them unless Chet’s agent got word both Orlando and OKC would pass on him, which would obviously have given the Rox minimal time to digest the info.

Rockets would have drafted Jabari #1...

But got him anyway at #3

Nice bluff Magic, but Stone called your bluff.

If the agent did not want to release the medicals and the player did not work out with them or interview with them as well because his agent didn't believe he had a chance to go past the 2nd pick, what did you want the Rockets to do? I am sure they had all the other information that was publicly available.

Who were they trading up for? Banchero or Smith?

Also, I don't understand why the Magic going with Banchero made a difference because either way there was a chance that OKC takes Smith or Banchero over Chet and he's the guy that's left of those three.

It sounds like they were trading up for Jabari.

I believe the article is implying that the Rockets would have picked Smith. In short, when they heard the Magic may take Banchero, they were surprised and worried that OKC would take Smith at 2, meaning the Rockets would have had to take Chet at 3 without prior access to his medicals.

That's not what the article says.

It doesn't say who they'd have drafted and it also says that the Magic had no interest in trading the pick....

Which doesn't make sense to me...

In the scenario that Ranchero and Smith went 1 and 2, I wouldn't be surprised if the FO went with Ivey instead of Chet.

What doesn’t make sense? The Rockets were worried that OKC may take Smith at 2, meaning they would have to take Chet without access to his medical information. They offered to trade up to 1 to secure Smith, but the Magic had no guarantee that the Rockets and Magic would pass on Banchero.

Says a lot about how much the Rockets were scared of Chet. I'm glad we didn't have to be put in such an awkward position to get the guy we wanted.

Everyone just knew Orlando was taking Jabari so OKC wanted Chet over Banchero because Jabari would be unavailable. When it came out Orlando MIGHT take Banchero, the Rockets thought OKC might take Jabari over Chet. Since the Rockets couldn't get Chet's medical records, they wanted to get to 1 to draft Smith.

Why wouldn't Orlando do a trade? If they knew the Rockets wanted Jabari and OKC wanted Chet, Banchero would have dropped to 3 and Orlando could have taken him there.

In 2017, the Boston Celtics famously traded the No. 1 pick for the No. 3 pick as the Philadelphia 76ers moved up to draft Markelle Fultz. The Celtics had Jayson Tatum No. 1 on their draft board all along, so they got their player and an extra future pick.
    ______

The 76ers air balled so many high value picks.

The article makes no sense. We may have been concerned about not having Chet’s medical info, but Duffy wouldn’t have withheld it if he wasn’t sure Chet was going 1 or 2. There’s no incentive to risk a slide or alienating a franchise for future business. He’s the super agent. The rockets had to know Chet was gonna be gone by #3. So we’re they trading up for Paolo? That seems obvious to me. We may have had Jabari #2, but if we knew Orlando was taking Paolo, we wouldn’t be trading up for Jabari.

I think we tried to trade up for Paolo as he was #1 on our board, but when that wasn’t an option we were content to take Jabari #3.

This is the way I took it; Rox wanted Smith, but expected Banchero. When ORL took Banchero, Rox were afraid OKC would take Jabari. BUt they didn't....
