guess you don't have any hope of denver entering in. dallas keeps sliding, gs would go to 7th and denver would go to 8th.

    1. ?
    2. ?
    3. ?
    4. Utah
    5. ?
    6. ?
    7. Warriors
    8. Denver

as of now, being 1st,2nd, or 5th would be ideal, cause if we are 3rd or 6th, we are more likely playing the spurs or suns. teams that have post games, that we should try to avoid. lakers are getting gasol back pretty soon, and they might be coming back strong anytime. hornets are playing pretty unbelivable right now, and have some easy games, but on a long road trip right now, so thats gonna be fun to watch.

what this mean for the rockets is, just win as much games as you can, until the last 5 games and see where you are, and what you would prefer.

crazy. I thought the rockets would be in fifth after the Spurs and Lakers would both win gimme games.

but even if the Lakers lose tonight, wouldn't we would STILL be in fifth, because LA would be guaranteed a top 4 seed?

theres just not enough room in the top 4 for three teams from our own division, plus LA and Utah, leaders of their own divisions....

Don't care where we end up. The whole race is so close that all of the teams are good and have a chance to win the West. Three teams I do not want to play in the first round.

    Spurs
    Suns
    Golden State

The Lakers are going to lose today and it will be the case that the Rox are below two teams in the standings, but have a better record than them... This system makes no sense.

Petition the NBA to change it.

I feel sorry for the Nuggest/ Warriors/ Dalls (whoever misses out) and Portland and Sacto for that matter!

We saw a game today where a 29 win team beat a 31 win team to stay alive in the race for the playoffs. Meanwhile Portland (on 38 wins) is basically no chance, and whoever misses out from Denver Dallas and GS will have the most wins ever to not make the playoffs....

    insane.

At least we have home court over LA and Utah at this point (not that it will matter if we don't get out of the first round).

but you are right, that would be huge...

this is being discussed all over this thread. the Lakers lead their division. the Hornets and Jazz lead theirs. the Spurs get the 2nd seed.

the Rockets needed the Spurs to lose tonight if they were to gain any ground while staying idle.

someone from the Southwest is going to be 5th seed.

The reason why we are fifth is because the division winners cant be seeded less than 4th so thats y we ar 5th lakers hornets and jazz are leading their divisions

This is a result of Stern's stupid reaction to Dallas and San Antonio meeting in the second round of the playoffs 2 years ago even though they had the 2 best records in the NBA. They were seeded #1 and #4, because Division Winners at that time got the top 3 seeds. It's why the Clippers tanked a few games 3 years ago to drop to #6 and face the #3 Nuggets, who had the seventh best record in the West but won their division. The Clippers had home court for that series.

Stern decided to award the top 4 seeds to the 3 Division winners and the winningest other team. They are then seeded 1-4 based on record. Home court is assigned to the team with the best record regardless of their seed. That's why we had home court last year with the #5 seed over the #4 Jazz (the Northwest Divison winner).

Is it possible that, if the season finished today, we face the Jazz in round 1, then when we win we play the Lakers in the second round and also have homecourt advantage?

How does the 2nd round work? Does 4-5 play 1-8? or is it random?

4-5 plays 1-8, like when the Jazz played the Warriors last year.

the Lakers would have to have the 1st seed and Houston would have to be 5th to play them in the 2nd round. but if the Lakers are 1st, they would have the better record and homecourt...

    so its not likely

as one poster pointed out 5>3

Staying in the fifth spot is a safe choice for us because we know who we will face in the first round (Utah) and we have a very good chance to win that series. I know I know thats what we all said last year too but this year we have Scola and Landry to confront and shut down AK and Booz. On that other had being in the range of 1-3 spots there is a great chance we can face Phx if we end up at 3! and I DO NOT WANNA FACE PHX!! not cuz of nash but cuz of Amare and Shaq their height WILL give us huge problems! and I personally think that now that Phx is getting used to Shaq in the lineup this Phx vs Houston series will be a sweep in favor of Phx. If by staying in top 3 we end up play GS or Denver especially Denver than that would be great but I dont want to take that chance and I rather stay safe and stay at fifth!
