The best way to cure acute tendonitis, especially at Steve’s age, is to rest. You can’t rest in the NBA without being out of shape. If he works out and tries to get in NBA shape, he risks causing more damage. If he rests, he risks not playing because he is not in NBA shape. I don’t blame Rick Adelman at all.
I'm not really sure how losing his contract gives us any real cap flexibility anyway? according to my (perhaps poor?) calculations, we would have the same 'core unit' for next season as we do for this season? The only contractual issue that I can see belongs with Landry - but we have a team option on him for next season, so he's at least locked up until the year after - or Bonzi (who would be looking at around $2.5mill anyway) Should Francis take his player option, it is only about $2.5 mill - which ONLY hurts if we're thinking luxury tax (since anyone we currently have whom we would want re-signed is signed for next season anyway...) Since we'd be over the cap with our salaries anyway, the only way we can sign new players is to use exceptions (or new rookies on scale contracts) - Francis' 2.5mill counts as a renewal, and is not part of the ~$5mill middle class exception. Luxury tax will be calculated early next season, but losing Sura/ Snyder and Mutumbos deals would put us around $10 million better off - and the luxury tax level would increase every year - so we wouldn't be in the ballpark for that unless we hit the number 1 + 2 picks in the lottery... So I'm mildly curious as to how Francis' player option of $2.5million hurts the team next year?
I don't think we have a team option on Landry at all, I think he is a restricted Free agent. I believe in order for him to take the lesser deal he got RFA after this year. DD
Francis is a Morey favorite. He's considered injured and in rehab. He's not getting traded. Plus consider this. Anytime Francis puts on a Rockets uniform and shows up at the game, it puts people in the stands.
