Possibility of Rocket off-season acquisition, IMO :

    PLAN A: CP3 0.5%
    PLAN B: DH12 5-10%
    PLAN C: J.SMITH 70-80%
    PLAN D: Al Jefferson 70-80%

    J.SMITH>AI
because Smtih was NBA All-Defensive Team 2010 and we have Asik.

I doubt CP3 will stay in LA. If you don't think he'll be a rocket what team do you think he'll be on?

    He will stay.
He is the boss and wants a new coach only.

He'll sign with the Lakers since Howard will leave to come to Houston and Nash will retire :)

Chris Paul? Dwight Howard? Josh Smith? Al Jefferson? I've never heard any of these names discussed as free agency targets!! :)

The 3rd option IMO would be signing a Milsap-to-Hickson-caliber PF to an inflated 1yr contract with a team option for year 2. Frees us up in 2014 (a class which Morey admittedly likes) and keeps us flexible during 2013 in case someone like Love becomes available.

Don't sleep on that strategy. And don't be too sad if it happens, our time will come.

Who are you, Chris Paul's agent?

Bill Simmons tweeted that Paul wants a new coach as well as other changes. Even if they got a new coach that doesn't mean Paul would want to stay.

The #1 focus for CP3 is winning. He's not going to win a chip as a Clipper.

That's all based on your opinions and assumptions on salary. More than likely there are about 20... yes TWENTY contengencies surrounding moves that could be made, and the financial ramifications. Here is a start based on what we know-

    A. Sign Howard as an UFA
    B. Sign CP3 as an UFA
    C. Trade for Kevin Love
    D. Trade for LaMarcus Aldridge
    E. Trade for upcoming star player unknown at this point (???)
    F. Value Vet trade for 2013/14 while retaining assets/cap space(IE Pau)
    G. Small one-year free agent acquisition with large team option for 2014(Thinking Jefferson or possibly Bynum would be option)
    H. Stand pat completely if UFA deemed too much risk financially(judgement)
    I. Sign Josh Smith at a reasonable price (no more than 8 mil a year)
    J. Sign Millsap at a reasonable price (no more than full MLE)

    H. is the most telling contingency I can come up with because at that point you've crossed out A through G off of your list, and it really comes down to judgement made by the front office on what the going rate is to sign someone like Josh Smith.

-The worst thing the Rockets can do at this point is neglect POTENTIAL options A through G because those would be better for the franchise long term, and just skip to Josh Smith or Millsap at a high dollar value.

-Also please note that I would only sign Al Jefferson or Andrew Bynum short term. A large one year deal with a large team option in year 2.

Plus if he really wanted to stay, then why didn't he sign the 5 year extension? He's keeping all his options open, the same thing LeBron and Melo did, which means there's a high chance of him leaving.

Paul is what we need team player top 3 in NBA. We just need an elite PF like LOVE OR LMA. When available till then can sign Milsap or J smith for 2-3 years later use them as a chip to acquire them.. Plus no major Upgrade with Howard and Asik becuae defensively Asik doesn't block as many shots but changes shots and gets the board. He scores when he needs to. Get and elite PF PAUL HARDEN PARSON ___ ASIK will have that money to add depth to the bench

We will then have a 4 and 5 in JSmoove and Asik, who are limited scorers allowing the big men from other teams to hang in the lane and leave nothing for PBev, Harden, or Parsons. Nope, even though I love what he brings on the defensive end.

I doubt morey is going to spend all the avail cap and sign a max contract player. I think he's into tweeting the lineup and getting more gems in low prices type players.

Asik will run.. Big Al cannot run

We have no set plays other then Variations of Pick and Roll and Screens..

With Al we will be playing Half Court ball.....

Do you not see? Big Al would destroy our team with his slowness

someone didn't take a statistics class in college.

saying we have an 80% chance of signing jefferson is laughable.

I think this may be my first post after lurking for a while then joining, then lurking some more lol so here goes.

This team is so young that most of our players WILL in fact improve. Harden, Parsons, Lin, Bev, Asik, all the rookies at the 4 have not hit their ceiling IMHO. So I for one think the plan for this offseason should go like this,

Plan A) Sign a superstar(DH12 or CP3 seeing as there are no other game changers in free agency this year)
Plan B) Stand pat and develop our assets(D-MO, T-Rob, T-Jones, basically any high upside young players not part of our starting line up) for another season to increase their value. Bring back every single player on this roster as it is(or at least as many as we can to preserve cap space for 2014) and let them go to work in the offseason and reevaluate our situation and points of need before the trade deadline next season and if any moves are made, they should be made with the priority of keeping our cap space and our core(Lin, Harden, Parsons, Asik) in tact for free agency in 2014, unless we can land the big fish(Game changer type of player). Now after all that is said and done and we still don't have another superstar, then we try to sign one as a free agent in 2014 where the class seems to be a little better.

We shouldn't sign a player just to sign a player. Josh Smith, Al Jefferson, Paul Millsap are the type of players you sign after you've already got your focal points of the team signed and committed long term. They may be borderline all stars but as a not so wise man once said "If your not first your last!"(even a broken clock is right twice a day right? Lol)
