The Rockets or the White House?

Discussion in 'Houston Rockets: Game Action & Roster Moves' started by Rasselas, Oct 27, 2004.

?

If you could wave your magic wand, and guarantee just ONE of the following, do you:

  1. Guarantee that the Rockets win the Championship?

    215 vote(s)
    60.9%
  2. Guarantee that your choice for President gets elected?

    138 vote(s)
    39.1%

Don't take this so seriously. Obviously the Presidency is more important than a championship in the grand scheme of things.

But come on, neither choice for the White House means the end of the civilized world. I'm voting for one over the other, but we'll live and function with EITHER one, just as it is in every election. In the end I'll respect, support, and wish the best for whomever wins.

So that makes the above choice very easy. I'd wave my wand for what will bring me the most "enjoyment" and bring the Rockets another championship.

BTW, this is funny because I just proposed this very scenario(minus Rocks plus Cards) this morning to a co-worker who's a huge Cardinal fan.

Since you say that after 12 months and several billion dollars worth of negative ads and media echochambering, all I can say is...

THE SYSTEM WORKS, GOD BLESS AMERICA!

edit: I should also add that you just dissed the living sh-t out of a certain equine.

I voted for my president, because I fully expect the Rox to win a few championships, but the election looks to be a horserace.

EDIT: Of course, my choice for president would be me, so that my sway my opinion a bit.

I don't know what's sad about that. The same guy'll win whether you watch or not. I think the game might be more interesting than watching the ohio exit polls come in. Besides, the game'll probably be over before the election is.

I thought I'd be in the minority on this but failed to realize how die-hard some others on this site are.

Nothing would make me happier then to see the Rockets win the NBA championship, and that's why I voted ROCKETS!!!

Well if you knew the rockets were going to win because you waved the magic wand wouldn't that take the fun out of the season? Part of winning the championship is the drama that the team has to go through to win it.

But given the situation at hand. GO ROCKETS!!

I choose to watch Rocket game!

The very fact that we could sit quietly to enjoy watching our favorite team signifies that the country will not be very different no matter who will be elected (I have my choice, by the way). During the time of the world wars, how many people in the world could sit down to enjoy a game, whatever game?

Besides, vote is a personal opinion, what you think is right might be wrong for somebody else.

    Breaking news!

Here's an update. My friends responded to my e-mail. And, believe it or not, most of them said that they want to watch the Rockets game! Mind you, these are long-time New Yorkers, none of them from Houston, but all of them agree that it will be interesting to see what T-Mac does alongside Yao and the Rockets.

The compromise is to watch the Rockets games primarily, and then flip over to CNN during commercials and half-time. The thought is that this will be a good 2+ hour distraction from the frenzy of election night. And as soon as the Rockets game is over, we'll switch over to the Daily Show. (This is the agreement.)

I feel like I'm Rocky at the end of Rocky IV. You know, bloody, sweaty, and with an American-flag towel wrapped around my shoulders: "If I can change, and you can change, then we all can change!"

Only in a country that is flirting ever so dangerously with facism would we have such a ridiculous discussion.

Our citizens - so apathetic, ignorant, and isolated from the rest of the world - seem destined at times to choose fascism.

Fascism? Is that a new offensive set? I know that's what isolations, or "isos" mean--if I catch your drift--and I agree, I don't like 'em. Too many of those last year, as we've discussed many times. Hopefully this year we'll be a better passing team; more passing, more cutting, more motion.

Eh... the guy obviously cares about the presidency. It's not like s/he isn't going to vote because the rockets are on tv.

With that said- I'm glad I have TIVO!

I ain't gonna tell you what I am going to watch live though for this bi-partisan (Rockets/Politics) forum would eat me alive.
