I worded it wrong, but I found it redundant asking for shooters when Morey's task was always to have people that can shoot. He's done his best with what's available, though.

I agree. Terry would have been more productive for us if he didn't have to play that many minutes as a starter. Coming of the bench or as a the third guard is the optimal arrangement for him and the Rockets.

Bingo... Terry's hand was forced and he had to do more than he was really capable of. He's a great defender and spot up shooter but don't put the ball in his hands and ask him to create.

Yet the Rockets have ZERO top-ten 3 point shooters on the team.

I am sure Morey knows we need more better shooters, but he doesn't want one dimensional shooters like Troy Daniels. He wants shooters who can defend and slash.

    With the obvious plan of:
    1. Sign Llull to MLE
    2. Sign Smith to $2.5m
    3. Let Beverly, McDaniels and Brewer go

We are left only with trading for a shooter. In the unlikely event that you can get OKC to bite, the obvious trade is for Durant, but that's really a pipe dream. The next juiciest catch would be getting Atlanta to agree to trading Kyle Korver or Cleveland to trade Mike Miller, though I'm not sure why they'd want to trade away their best 3pt shooters. Instead, our most likely trades to get a solid 3&D guy on our roster (other than Terry) would be to trade for Ben Gordon from Orlando, Steve Blake from Portland, or Danny Granger from Phoenix. The latter two we could get by sending out $1.34 to $3m in salaries (Johnson, Dorsey, Capella, DMo, TJones and Prigs are options). And Blake would give us more depth at PG. Gordon could be had sending out $3 to $6.75m (same as above, plus Papanikolaou). Of course, I'm not suggesting we trade DMo or Capella for one of these guys, but salary-wise, they are options.

    Trade Options:
Kevin Durant, OKC 1 yr left, $19m
Kyle Korver, ATL 2 yrs left, $6.2m
Mike Miller, CLE 1 yr w/ Player Option, $2.7m
Ben Gordon, ORL 1 yr left, $4.5m
Steve Blake, POR 1 yr w/ Player Option, $2m
Danny Granger, PHO 1 yr left w/ Player Option, $2m

If Llull doesn't take the MLE to come over next year, we use a portion of the MLE (or vet mins) on 1 or 2 of the following, and then resign Beverley to $4m per:

    Free Agent Options:
Ray Allen, FA, Sat Out 2014-15
    Leandro Barbosa, GSW FA, $1.4m
Rashard Lewis, FA, Sat Out 2014-15
    Hedo Turkoglu, LAC FA, $1.4m

You're taking a risk on Rashard Lewis and his knee, but if he can come back even in a limited capacity, you've got yourself a dead-eye 3pt shooter. Turkoglu and Ray Allen are old, but they'd still be effective in 10-15 minute spurts. Barbosa is a much better player than we saw in the GSW series against us.

    Neither did 22 other teams.

This. There are plenty of snipers, but only a small percentage aren't a train wreck outside of their shooting.

What Rockets need is lots of screens and pick n rolls. ISOs are a thing of the past. Screens + fast ball movement kills. Passing is still faster than running. Screens are the best against any defense and can create numerous mismatches. Just watch GSW and how they were able to bring down Cavs. The amount of people they're using is almost the same as the Cavs but the Cavs tire out earlier. It's because of ball movement and screens. I don't know if this current Rockets roster is capable of doing that especially under McHale's tutelage.

If his task was to find shooters and he hasn't even openly pursued any of the top 10 3 pt shooters, maybe we've misunderstood his goal. Either that or he's doing it wrong.

Top Ten Shooters (in no particular order)

    Korver
    Curry
    Gordon
    Morrow
    Green
    Redick
    Thompson
    Irving
    Middleton
    Durant

Which one of them have we read Morey pursuing?

    Quick question.
    Gordon is Eric Gordon??

If it is, I'd see Morey going for him and/or Danny Green. Gordon can play the PG too so he could start or back up Llull and if we were to get Green too, we'd be lethal with a backcourt rotation.

Add Reddick and Gallinari and we're good to go.

So who's the best three point shooter that Morey has pursued?

    Yes. Eric Gordon.

I don't see either of them playing backup 2guard though.

I think this is more of the case. Being a good shooter is not good enough for Morey. I don't mind 1 or 2 one-dimensional players though. Give me a hard-core rebounder and a hard-core shooter and they'll find a place on my team.

Gordon opted in and he will get paid 15 this year. Hes also often injured. Danny Green is ufa and will cost more than 10 per. Morrey cant get either unless he guts the team.

The Rockets need some pure basketnball players. Shooting is nice but one dimesnional shooting (like Json Terry) doesn't help nearly as much as a versatile playmaker who maybe only shoot somewhat well.

The only guy I can think of that is a pure shooter and does other things is Dunleavy. But will the bulls bite?

Terry was great when all you asked of him was to come off the bench and shoot. The problem was when he was asked to do more ball handling and defending starting point guards.
