There is nobody worthy of being MVP on the Rockets right now. McGrady and Yao have both helped us win some regular season games, but until we win a few series in the playoffs, it's meaningless.

Stop trying to split the board and cause flame wars.

Some of you guys need some reading comprehension skills.

True leader?? Who said anything about leader?

Split the board? Where have you been? You don't need me for that.

Read my posts, and you'll see I basically am saying, give credit where credit is due. I'm just recognizing in text that he's our team's MVP.

I know you can't win all the games, but it's pretty obvious how much worse we look without our main guy. I think Tracy and Yao compliment each other.

You know what, nevermind. Everyone here only reads what they want b/c of a lot of the garbage that is posted here amongst the actual good stuff. I just came here to show recognition for the player that really makes the Rockets what they are. But I guess the holier than thous have decided to somehow (probably b/c they decided to not read) that this thread is a who is better, who is leader, who is MVP of league, who would you pick if you could have one discussion...

It's no wonder I go through periods of inactivity here. Everytime I come back and decide to contribute a little, I get treated like I'm some free registered user that just likes to say stuff to get the crowd worked up.

Replace KG with Yao these past two games and KG isn't winning anything either. Just look at his record when having mediocre teammates as guards for proof.

There's nothing to celebrate in confirming during these past two losses that Tracy McGrady is our MVP on the team. It just shows that we still haven't done enough personnel wise to bring in a capable playmaker to assist Yao and Tracy. The Spurs have two penetrators in Ginobili and Parker. If one goes down, Timmy still has the other. We only have Tracy. I'm sorry but we're not winning anything until we fix this. Hopefully Francis can fill that role or otherwise you better hope Alston or James is in a hotstreak. Do you believe in miracles? And I know this has no place in this thread, but it wouldn't hurt to have the coaching staff do a better job preparing the players for the defensive end than they have.

Capable playmaker is Bonzi. He's shown he can be a 3rd scoring threat just about every night. James...sometimes.

The last few games is not the full sample size as you have alluded to. Look at his history with the Rockets and how they do with or without him. The last few games is just a reminder.

    Bonzi? BONZI????

    1. Bonzi is not a playmaker. You're right in that he 'CAN' be a 3rd scoring threat, but he is not playmaking guard.

    2. 3rd scoring threat - not consistent. He stunk offensively in a couple of recent games. If we had this Bonzi last season, we still would have gotten knocked out of the first round. If Bonzi had:

    a) contributed at least 10 points (he scored 5) against the Grizzlies, we would have won that game.

    b) contributed at least 10 points (he scored 4) against the Spurs, we would have tied that game.

    c) contributed at least 10 points against the Suns (he scored 0), we would have tied that game.

So........ who is your playmaker and 3rd scoring option again?

    Worked up a little?

Anyway, still Bonzi, b/c you just listed the games where we lost and most of the squad minus Tracy OR Yao played poorly. That's like saying when Tracy has a bad night, he's not one of our top two options.

Let's face it, the proven scorers (in the past) off the bench on this team are Bonzi, Steve, and James. From what I've seen so far this season, I think Bonzi is our 3rd option. In all honesty, I just hope ONE of the three brings it any given night. That should be enough to give us a chance...GIVEN Tracy and Yao both play as they usually do.

What's your point? That elbow injury of his is not a sign of being fragile. It was a freak injury. If you're referring to his back then yes it's fragile but when was the last time he was out because of his back? Since patterson started working on his back, he was rarely out because of back issues. Most of the games he sat out was because of the Rockets being cautious.

This thread is for discussing whether T-Mac is the Rockets' MVP or not. The current losing streak is a proof of how important T-Mac is to the Rockets. Take away T-Mac, this team goes on a losing streak. Take away Yao, this team would still have a winning record with T-Mac leading the way. Remember last year when he lead the team to a 20-12 record with Yao out? Deke played great during that stretch but that team was less talented than this year's team. With this year's team stacked with talent, they still struggle without T-Mac.

Just to be clear, I'm not bashing Yao. He & T-Mac are my favorite players. This team won't go anywhere without either Yao or T-Mac but if asked who the Rockets' MVP is, it's T-Mac hands down.

Neither Yao nor McGrady can carry a team. I doubt without Yao, McGrady could carry this team to the playoffs. So it takes both of them together to make this team good. I say Kobe is the only guy deserving of being called the most important piece to his team. Yao and McGrady are MVP to for the Rockets. McGrady does not have a good record of leading teams by himself, as shown from all those years he was with Orlando.

All the MVP threads are silly. It's way too early to discuss who's the MVP. If the Rockets can win 60 games, either Yao or Tmac will win the MVP.

Yao is a very important component, but tmac is the most important by far. With tmac, yao could play very well and get many easy baskets.
I wish they both keep healthy. The team needs them both on the court.

outside of one year in 03-04, he has shown he can lead teams to the playoffs by himself. that's what kobe has done also so i don't know why u say kobe is the most important piece. u replace tmac w/ kobe and i can say the lakers will make the playoffs too.

We're talking about this year right?

Everyone's saying that Yao can't lead a team because we just lost 4 in a row.

We lost to memphis, the worst team in the division, tracy was there.

we lost to lakers, yao and bonzi missed some FTs, but remember, yao is still a better FT shooter than tracy; yao made a great play at the end, rafer couldn't convert. Could tracy even make that play?

we lost to Spurs, at their home court. I doubt we would win even with both tracy and yao in the lineup, much less if we take yao out of the lineup.

we lost to Suns, yeah, we always lose to Suns. This is the only game where I think we would do better with tracy in the lineup instead of yao.
